This is a Children's Ministry Director position at Bloomingdale Church, a congregation of 400+ people in the Chicago suburbs. It is an active church that places a high value on quality children's ministry and outreach to the local community. Interested applicants must have completed at least a bachelor's degree, have a proven track record and a high ability to organize, administrate and teach. They also need to be willing to become licensed with the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination. For those interested in continuing education, Bloomingdale Church is located 15 minutes from Wheaton College, 35 minutes from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and 45 minutes from Moody Bible Institute. Pay is determined based on experience. Children’s Ministry Director (30-40 hours per week, depending on candidate profile) Summary of Ministry Focus: People Care (children/parents, guest assimilation, volunteer development), Children’s Programs & Events (Check-In, Children’s Church, Crossroads Kids Club, Awana Club, Sunday School, Nursery, Day Camp, Outreach), Pastoral Staff roles & Prayer PEOPLE CARE • Pastoral care of children and parents • Care contact each family at least twice a year • Contact missing children monthly • Drive volunteer postcard contacting of children and families • Assimilation of children and parents • Be the face that represents Bloomingdale Church children’s ministry to our guests • Contact each new guest within one week and recontact within 2 months • Develop Children’s Ministry program leaders and volunteers • Ensure that all volunteers are officially approved • Provide ongoing care, including semi-annual training and monthly communications • Care contact each volunteer at least twice a year CHILDREN'S OUTREACH PROGRAM & EVENTS • Cast a bold vision for the Children's Ministry and ensure that volunteers are carrying out the vision. • Coordinate a complete quarterly volunteer schedule that includes all Children's Ministry programming (Children's Church, Sunday School, Nursery, PAK, Awana etc) as well as a yearly calendar accessible for staff and help to understand the direction and need. • Provide on-going training and support to all volunteers with at least one annual meeting going over the vision and guidelines. • Check-In: Champion a great experience for families checking in. Oversee, staff and train in the Check-In team at all weekend programs, Awana and special events. Oversee online registration and accurate onsite data entry in Church Community Builder database. • Children’s Church (30-40 minutes each X3): Direct content programming, including curriculum implementation in all 3 services. Recruit and inspire volunteers to teach and help those who are teaching. Be onsite to support the program and volunteers, filling in for teachers when needed. Hand out curriculum one month in advance to teachers. • Nursery (0 - 3years): If the nursery director steps down this ministry will become your responsibility to recruit sufficient volunteers for all program weekend events, create serving schedules, ensure safety, provide a curriculum and excellent communication. While a director is in place, your job is to be sure that the ministry is running optimally by supporting the director and filling in when needed. • Children's Sunday school (hour long program every Sunday): If current lay leadership steps down, this ministry will become your full responsibility to recruit sufficient volunteers, create serving schedules, ensure safety, provide a curriculum and excellent communication ages 3years-6thgrade. While lay leadership is in place, your job is to be sure that the ministry is running optimally by supporting the leaders and filling in when needed. • PAK (pre-adolescent kids 5th &6th graders): If the leaders step down, this ministry will become your full responsibility to recruit sufficient volunteers, create serving schedules, ensure safety, provide a curriculum and excellent communication. While lay leadership is in place, your job is to be sure that the ministry is running optimally by supporting the leaders and filling in when needed. • Crossroads Kids Club: Lead Crossroads clubs, including administration and promotion needs in the two locations (Dujardin and Erickson grade schools). Recruit leaders to help at both locations. Be a bridge from Crossroads and Bloomingdale Church, through outreach events and programming. Teach large group or lead other aspects of club when needed • Awana Club: Oversee the whole program. Ensure all volunteer recruiting needs are met. Support lay leaders and volunteers through hosting trainings, providing ongoing communication and friendship with the team. Be onsite for volunteer and program support. Ensure building opening and closing. Special events management - Fall Food Drive, Share the Love, Grand Prix, assimilation events etc. • Serve on Day Camp (VBS) Committee as a facilitator: Overseeing community promotion including school flyers, web/social media, and local flyer distribution. Recruit volunteers and coordinate two trainings. Assure event execution, including media presentations, take home materials, classroom supplies, registration, and check-in/check-out. Be onsite for volunteer and program support. Ensure building opening and closing. Follow up contact with every non-church family (July-August). This event draws in 300-400 kids and requires high level of organization. • Co-lead the Kids’ Front Porch Online Club: This is a developing outreach ministry of producing YouTube type videos with the purpose of teaching God’s word to kids ages 3-6th grade. Your job would be to co-lead all the oversight of planning meetings, recruiting cast/audiences, content of the videos, promotion and where the content goes. • Coordinate outreach events and community partnership events: Lead a team that: Casts a vision for the direction and growth of outreach events, ensuring that volunteers carry out this vision. Plans events well in advance and works within budget. Recruits adequate volunteers. Oversees environment setup and cleanup of all onsite children’s programming spaces. Possible events: Wacky Water Day, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Fest/Trunk or Treat and events put on by the Bloomingdale Township where BC can have an outreach stand to paint faces, make balloon animals etc. COMMUNICATION • Communicate Children’s Ministry mission and opportunities • Deliver quarterly communication to church community • Ensure that church-wide communications, including website reflect NextGen programming and opportunities • Design print media as needed • Coordinate kids events with the Associate Pastor for Families when there are opportunities to partner together and get the parents more involved • Inspire “Safe & Welcoming” environments • All new and returning volunteers complete annual NextGen Volunteers application • Contribute to annual update of NextGen Policies PASTORAL STAFF ROLES: Modeling Jesus’ servant leadership style • Fulfill onsite office hours • Attend weekly staff meeting on Wednesdays • Attend a weekly prayer meeting • Be fully present before and after all church services to greet people, care for them and build relationships • Fulfill weekly accountability report, which includes contacting, weekly prayer group, outreach/prayer walk in community, and communication • Protect the facility, including caring for/cleaning up ministry spaces and maintaining adequate adult presence • Support staff initiatives, including church management data entry, team event/project planning, and team development • Submit two written reports per year to Governing/Shepherd’s Board • Report to Associate Pastor for Families: Meet regularly being accountable to goals and quarterly reviews
