Ministry Scholarship Program

NEED

Ministry Scholarship ProgramA significant percent of C&MA students graduate with a heavy educational debt load. At times, this indebtedness has delayed the sending out of qualified missionary candidates and has made it difficult for some to enter church ministry. Meanwhile there is limited visible expression of the investment of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in the next generation of workers. The cost of education continues to increase while our requirements for service remain high and out of reach for some.

GOAL

To provide assistance to students preparing for vocational ministry with the C&MA by providing incentive scholarships to these students during their training at one of the C&MA schools.

BASIC CONCEPT

The program will provide scholarships to students preparing for C&MA ministry at C&MA schools, including Alliance Theological Seminary. These will be awarded at the end of the students' junior year if in college or after completion of 24 graduate credit hours if in graduate school or seminary. The Alliance will provide 50 scholarships per year, or 10 per C&MA school, in the amount of $1000 each. Thirty scholarships will go to those headed into overseas missions and twenty scholarships will go to those headed into U.S. church ministry. Funding for the scholarships will come from the present C&MA higher education grants already provided to the schools. The difference is that the monies would be tied to specific students who meet criteria set by The Alliance.

The program will be open to those who are studying at one of the Alliance colleges and Alliance Theological Seminary. Fund management is provided by the schools through their normal processes for scholarships and financial aid. The scholarships will be awarded in a public setting at the colleges by the regional representative and the college president or his designee. Deadline for student application is March 15.
