Gatehouse Ministries - Ministry Director Position ›› detailsGatehouse Ministries (GHM) is a small private non-profit organization that exists âto create a nurturing environment of challenge, growth and potential for college-age missionary kids (MKs)â. GHM is seeking a qualified couple to lead it into its next season of ministry as Directors of its college ministry in Redding, California.
Applicants will be a married couple who will model a vibrant Christian testimony, both in their daily walk and in the health of their marriage. They will have an understanding of the special needs of Third Culture Kids (TCKs) and Missionary Kids (MKs) as they transition from life in foreign countries in which they were raised to life in North America.
The Director is a twelve-month resident position that allows for close contact with students on a daily basis. It requires a dedication to students' social, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional development, helping them to prepare for the challenges and responsibilities of living in the world as Christians. The Director is directly responsible to the Gatehouse Board of Directors.
Although the position is a twelve-month position, the ministry operates on the academic calendar. The house is closed from Mid-May to mid-August of each year. It is expected that the directors have significantly more freedom and time off during the summer months, subject to arrangement with volunteers, accounting services and the board of directors.
The Directors are directly responsible for running all aspects of the non-profit organization and the local ministry to MKs. The job includes fund raising, public speaking, written donor communication, accounting, home management, house parenting, discipleship and college ministry. The directors must be willing and able to act with very little supervision and direction â this is a job for self-starting mature individuals who have a vision for ministry to college-age missionary kids. The ideal couple would be empty-nesters with history of international ministry, perhaps former missionaries themselves.
Duties include:
House Parents / College Ministry Directors: Gatehouseâs primary purpose is to minister to the needs of college-age MKs on the campus of Simpson University in Redding California. Gatehouse Ministries owns a house nearby the Simpson campus. The Directors of Gatehouse live in the house and are house parents to 8 college-age MKs most of whom attend college at Simpson.
House Parenting: all aspects of running a large home including meal preparation (with student assistance) five nights per week. Duties also include oversight of college-age men and women living in a family environment, discipleship ministries, mentoring and assistance in practical helps relevant to college-age young people. Some accounting and bookkeeping skills are required as well as some minor home-maintenance skills. The MKs who live in the home are expected to do all weekly chores in exchange for the privilege of living there. The Directors coordinate the efforts of the students in this regard.
College Ministry: Planning and leading a monthly event including coordination of volunteers, preparation, transportation and clean up. In the past, monthly events have included a water day on the lake, hikes in the nearby mountains and an annual 3-day mountain retreat. Additionally, the directors are encouraged to make one-on-one contact with each of the 25-30 MKs on Simpson Campus at least once per year.
Fund raising / coordination of volunteers: Gatehouse has a solid base of support that must be maintained and expanded through regular communication with existing and new donors. The Ministry Directors need to be effective in verbal and written communication and willing to speak in group settings. They must also be able to prepare and send newsletters and email describing the conduct of the ministry and its needs.
Financial Management & Accounting: The Ministry Directors must be able to track and account for income (donations) and expenses using PC-based financial software.
Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated leadership ability with a track-record of acting independently and responsibly, preferably in the context of non-profit organization leadership.
2. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or documented equivalent experience.
3. Should be willing to pursue additional education in the area of ministry to the children of Missionaries and Missionary families (if applicable).
4. Must be committed to the personal development of students as a vocational calling.
5. Effective communication and relational skills and a strong willingness to act as part of a team.
