BUBNA BYTES - WHEATON - Christmas 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

As 2008 comes to a close we want to send you our greetings and blessings for the new year of 2009. We are in our second year of home assignment in Wheaton, Illinois. Lord willing, we will be moving to Dakar, Senegal in June of next year. Following are some prayer and praise items for us as we look to this transition for our family:

PRAISE
Praise the Lord for His strength and health for Joel as he toured in churches on the east coast.
Praise the Lord for a church family here in Wheaton.
Praise the Lord for renewed vision and passion for His next steps in our calling to ministry.
Praise the Lord for opening doors for Angele and Nadia to be accepted in a bilingual French school in Dakar next school year.

PRAYER
Pray for us as we anticipate a major transition and move.
Pray for a job and place to live for our son, Josiah, for next summer.
Pray for Joel as he leaves on his next tour assignment January 9th. He will be on the west coast. Pray that he will be a blessing to churches and God’s people!
Pray for future ministry doors to open ahead of us in Dakar .
Pray with us about finding a house for an affordable rent in the neighborhood where God wants us in Dakar.

Thank you for your support in every way. Thanks to those of you who support us thru the Great Commission Fund. In spite of the difficult financial situation in the US we are grateful for the faithfulness of God’s people. If you would like to partner with us in ministry or help us as we put together funds for our outfit and vehicle you can do so by following the support link above.

May you know the blessing of the Lord Jesus during this season that reminds us of Emmanuel, God with us!

BUBNA NEWS WHEATON DAKAR

Dear Friends and Family,

15 months ago we moved from Mali West Africa to Wheaton, Il. During these months I have had opportunity to tour in churches in the Midwest and on the east coast, begin a DMin program at Trinity Evangelical Seminary and with Elin, help our kids to feel “settled” in Wheaton. Josiah finished his freshman year at Wheaton College. He made the football team and will be playing this year. Angele and Nadia finished 5th and 3rd grades, respectively, and both had a great school year. We chose to make our church home at Blanchard Alliance in Wheaton and this has been a blessing to all five of us!

WHEATON DAKAR

When we left Mali, we knew that we would not be returning because of how the severely dry climate affected Elin’s health. We were not sure what the next step in ministry would be. These months we have been praying and seeking the Lord’s will. Though this has been a stretching experience it has also been a rich one. We have had opportunity to interact with people and ministries around the globe. Over the last two months we have been dialoguing with the C&MA leadership team in Senegal. It is too long to tell the whole story but as the door has opened wider and wider, we have sensed the clear voice of the Lord leading us to head back to West Africa, this time to Dakar, Senegal.

On the map, Senegal is next door to Mali and very close to Cote d’Ivoire where we called “home” for 18 years. However, Senegal will mean a new language, new culture, new friends and new ministry for us. We will start over once again. We will be living in the capital city, Dakar, a city that is about 3 million people. The country of Senegal is said to be 95% Muslim. You can imagine with us the needs and challenges.

We are not sure yet of our date of departure but we are shooting for early June 2009. We will let you know the details as they unfold. One of the things we need to do is to pull together household things; this includes everything from a teaspoon to a washing machine to a vehicle. In addition, I will be doing a speaking tour both in the fall and in the spring as well as preparing for classes at Trinity. The next months will be full.

WALKING WITH US

Perhaps you have seen or heard of the Paris- Dakar race. It is a yearly event that sees racers from all over the world traverse the Sahara desert on dirt bikes and in SUV,s. It is a rugged trek. Though the road from Wheaton to Dakar does not go through the Sahara it does seem daunting. We take courage in the knowledge that we are not on the road alone. Here are some practical ways that you can walk with us in the months ahead.
Pray with Us:

1. Pray that the Lord would make the path straight in front of us. Our hearts desire is to see people come to know Christ as Savior and Lord. Pray that God would prepare the right house, neighborhood, school, etc. for us to meet people who are searching for Himself.

2. Pray for Josiah who will stay at Wheaton College and for the transitions coming up for Angele and Nadia, new schools, new home, new language, new friends, etc.

3. Pray for Joel as he goes on mission tour and prepares for courses this fall.

Thanks to all of you who support our “cost of living” expense through the Great Commission Fund.

Practical Ways to Partner with Us

We have a fund to help us put together what is needed to set up home in Dakar. This helps with appliances, furniture, water filters and the countless items needed to set up a new home. If you send a check with a note designating: “Joel & Elin Bubna Outfit” that will help us with this need.

When we left Mali we were able to sell our vehicle and put the money aside for our next assignment. This is a great start but we will need about $10,000 to complete the price of a vehicle in Senegal. Gifts to this can be marked: “Joel & Elin Bubna Vehicle”.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
