Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

September 6, 2010

Greetings from the Dominican Republic.
Thank you for praying for us faithfully in your homes and in your churches. We know that because of your prayers Satan's strongholds are destroyed and God’s Spirit is poured out in each of our ministries.

Short-term Missions:
August was a full month of activities and action. Eagan Hills Alliance brought two youth teams down to the DR on a back-to-back missions encounter, 8/1 – 819. Each team participated in construction and prayer walks. In addition, the first team ministered to over 250 kids in their VBS program. The second team was involved in witnessing to young men through basketball.

One Sunday evening, the group participated in the youth service at Central Alliance Church. A member of the church has a ministry to the street shoe-shine boys in the neighborhood. Many of them are homeless or come from very dysfunctional families. Twenty-six were invited, but many more attended the service. Two members from the Eagan Hills team gave their testimony on how God had worked in their lives through a difficult family situation. The final speaker was a Christian young man from one of our Alliance churches who told how his mother had died when he was a boy and he never knew his father so relatives have taken him into their home. He shared how through this difficult time in his life he came to know the Lord and his life has been transformed. Many of the shoe-shine boys walked forward when the invitation was given and there were young people ready to counsel them. After the service there was a time of sharing with the boys over hot dogs and ice cream.

Family News:
On August 31st, Bruce’s mother moved to Leesburg, Florida. She has lived in Emmaus, PA since retiring as a missionary in India, 24 years ago. His father passed away last year and this year they knew that Mom had to make the painful transition of selling her house and moving to a new place, even at her healthy age of 87.

We praise the Lord that the moment it was decided to sell her house, God was present in every aspect of her life. Everything went very well from the sale of her home to the transition into her new home in Florida. It was indeed a miracle sent from heaven. On Wednesday, June 23 we put Mom's house up for sale. Before the "For Sale" sign was on the front lawn, a young couple called the realtor for a viewing. Before the end of the day we had a buyer. By August 31 we had to be out of the house. Where was Mom going to live? We had put her name in senior housing right in Emmaus, PA, but she was number 19 on the list and nothing was changing. While praying and seeking God’s direction an apartment near one of her daughters opened up in Florida. We are praising the Lord for the way he brought everything together and is in control of all things.

Please continue to pray that Betty Dyke will receive God's peace and joy as she settles in her new home, new area, new church, makes new friends and finds new doctors.

We (Bruce and Becky) will be returning to the States on May 16, 2011 for our Home Assignment year. We do not know where we will be staying right now. Pray that God will lead and direct us, as we have seen His faithfulness in the past. And we thank you.

House of Blessing Alliance Church:
We have been praying now for over fifteen years that the House of Blessing Alliance would be able to find and purchase property. There is a large church right around the corner where the House of Blessing is now meeting. This church is building a larger facility and campus in a different location and would like to sell their building to us. The House of Blessing board has looked at the building, talked to the pastors and said they would like to purchase the building. Negotiations are going on at this time.

Continue to pray for God’s intervention and wisdom for pastor Freddy and the board. Pray that the church would accept our purchase plan offer.

Pray for faith to believe God to supply the US$1.3 million needed. We read the other day that anything that appears to block His plans (like $1.3 million dollars) is an opportunity for Him to demonstrate His sovereign power. The Lord wants us to trust Him to remove each impediment!

Please pray with us for a miracle.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

Praise and Prayer:

1. Pray that Betty Dyke will receive God's peace and joy as she settles in her new home, new area, new church, makes new friends and finds new doctors.

2. Pray for us (Bruce and Becky) as we will be returning to the States on May 16, 2011 for our Home Assignment year. We do not know where we will be staying right now. Pray that God will lead and direct us, as we have seen His faithfulness in the past. And we thank you.

3. House of Blessing: Continue to pray for God’s intervention and wisdom for pastor Freddy and the board. Pray that the church for sale would accept our purchase plan offer. Pray for faith to believe God to supply the US$1.3 million needed.

4. Pray for Bruce and Becky as they continue making friendships with their neighbors that they would have the privilege of leading them to Christ.

5. Praise the Lord for Dan and Kriss Peterson, our new Guest House Operators. Pray for them as they adjust to a new culture and a new ministry.
