Here in Taiwan, the New Year has been here for 4 1/2 hours already. Happy 2012 to you all!

Yesterday one of the biggest local news stories here in Taiwan had to do with a so-called scientist's end-of-the-world prophecy. Please pray for people in Taiwan to turn to Jesus and look for Him to come again in 2012!

We thank God for the 103 pre-Christian community children, youth and adults who filled out "Christmas passports" at our primary Christmas outreach event a week ago Friday night. Those who completed passports heard the story of the birth of Jesus and how his presence affects our lives as told in an Angel Room, a Shepherd Room, a Wise Men Room, and a Santa Claus (actually the historic Saint Nicholas) Room. A number of others, while not visiting those rooms, briefly visited two larger rooms to play games, listen to live harp music and canned Christmas carols, receive evangelistic literature and a copy of the Jesus DVD, and to enjoy refreshments. Pray for God to continue to work in the hearts of these acquaintances. Special thanks to God for Rachel Kramer's great Christmas outreach idea, for Annie Chien's creative invitation card, for SongShan Church being available to staff three of the rooms, for our church accountant/secretary in handling refreshments, and for increased involvement from three of our other church friends!

We thank God also for the 23 persons who attended our Christmas Eve showing of the 2006 Nativity Movie. In light of previous "movie night" experiences, I had been concerned that people might get up and leave early, but except for one junior higher whose mother arrived to take her home, everyone else was riveted to their seats to the very end (the bountiful supply of popcorn and other refreshments may have helped facilitate this). Roger, a retired school administrator with whom I have shared selected Taiwanese Bible stories with for several years, shared feelings of giddiness and childlike excitement with Taiwan Team Leader Don Kramer as the movie neared its conclusion. So that's how Jesus was born!

Prior to our two Christmas events, a team of 16 from SongShan Alliance church accompanied international workers and local church friends in sharing the Good News for a couple of hours in several outlying villages. We thank God for the opportunities we had to pray and share with a number of people who have no local churches in their local communities!

Other News and Prayer Requests

A-Hsiang, the Vietnamese care-giver for whom you prayed last month, has not been able to attend meetings recently due to the need for her to care for her boss in the hospital. Please pray for her to sense God's nearness and to be able to rejoin us soon.

Pray for A-Hong, who is looking for direction with regard with regard to future career development. Pray also for A-Hong to continue to grow in Christ.

Sharon, for whom you also prayed last month, continues to come fairly regularly. Pray for her to continue to know about God as she continues to get accustomed to life in this community with her husband and in-laws.

Please pray for outreach and relational opportunities over the Chinese New Year winter break later in January. We are planning two game nights with a showing of the Nick Vujicic short film "Butterfly Circus".

The last few weeks of 2011 hit our work with some unexpected shocks (i.e. hostile incursion attempts) which have been painful to absorb. Please pray for God's guidance and presence in 2012!

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to participate in a short-term missions trip and experience missions work firsthand? We’re here to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
