Ministry Update

The last time I wrote I mentioned some transmitter problems we were having. By God's grace we were recently able to find the problem and fix it. The other issue was that a new radio station had been granted a frequency literally the next channel up (which is unheard of in the states, requiring a minimum separation of 72 kms). We had written the government asking them to look into this. They responded a week or so ago with a personal visit. We were able to dialogue and convince them of the urgency of this situation. They are working to find another frequency for the new station. After meeting with them, we offered them a tour of the newly remodeled studio. To our collective surprise, when we opened the door of the transmitter room, it was not working. I was embarrassed to say the least. That night I was able to locate the problem and repair it. Maybe God wanted to show them that our radio has replacement parts and can be back running again quickly. Before leaving, we were able to provide them with some diagrams and information that they don't have here to help them. Interestingly, the man responsible for controlling the spectrum for the government doesn't even own a single piece of equipment to test things with. The next morning I showed him some of the test equipment I have and as a gesture gave him a small frequency counter so that he will at least be able to measure the frequency of an FM station. He was delighted and our hope is that it will strenthen the relationship with them at the same time. Please pray they would grant a new frequency to this station quickly and suspend their programming in the interim.

On another exciting note I mentioned to some churches this summer that the director was wakened one Sunday morning by an early visitor waiting for him at his office in town. During the visit this older man Omar SOLE, an El Hadj (someone who has made the pilgrimage to Mecca), mentioned that he and others of his friends listen to the radio station and that they are convinced of its truth. He then proceeded to give his wife seated next to him permission to begin attending the local Alliance church (in Africa, this is an important step). Just four weeks ago we received word that he has now chosen to follow Christ and will begin attending church once his health is restored. During our visit and videoing of his testimony, he had difficulty breathing and his legs and ankles are swollen.

BANFORA:
The dedication service on the 18th of October went well. The station was honored by several dignitaries and clergy from the surrounding area. Afterwards, several pastors and lay people distributed solar radios to villages resistant to the gospel. In the village of Tangrela the Karaboro people had in the past chased off a Pastor and his family trying to move to the village. We were surprised by our warm reception as we arrived in the village. Everyone was excited to greet us and overjoyed by the gift of these radios. By distributing these radios, the barrier that once existed was torn down. Just yesterday, the director called to inform me that a man had called him asking for a meeting so that he could receive Christ as his savior. He mentioned how the programs had opened his eyes to truth.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

Rejoice with us in this decision and pray for healing and perseverance in the El Hadji's life.

Please pray for this man from Banfora and others like him to grow in Christ through the ministry of the radio as many are unable to read or write.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
