Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
Fanberg’s Update – April 2008
We recently had an exciting conference call. Through the convenience of the internet we were able to participate in a video conference of a Theological Education by Extension (TEE) class in San Salvador. Last year Robbi traveled to El Salvador to teach a group of leaders how to direct the class. Now this group was finishing their first 13 weeks of classes and they asked us to participate with them in their last session as they completed their first book. The group met in the church office where an internet connection brought us live video of the class. It gave us the opportunity to give words of encouragement and pray for the group. As we watched the class in session we could see the dynamic participation of each person as they discussed what they had learned that week in their studies. Please pray for the churches in El Salvador as they study the word of God and develop leaders to reach their community for Christ.
Our work here in Central America continues to develop. Here in San Jose we began a small group with the goal of making new contacts and opening a new church in the future. We currently have about eight people meeting on a weekly basis. The majority of our group is from the traditional religion of Costa Rica. It is exciting to walk with them as they learn what it means to dedicate their lives to Christ and live for Him. Recently we added an English as Second Language class for members of the group to bring new people in. Please pray for our group that each one would grow in the Lord and bring new people to the group.
On a Central America regional level we will be traveling to El Salvador where Chuck will work on organizational issues for the expansion of The Alliance in that country. While there Robbi will train additional leaders for the TEE program. We have received good news from both Honduras and El Salvador that the TEE classes are going well in those churches. The leaders Robbi trained last year are now leading their classes and new groups are being formed. This is very encouraging as it will produce a new group of leaders for the churches. Please pray for the churches in Central America. The leadership in some of the countries is weak and that is an obstacle in the growth of the churches.
Our OnMission interns Kari Petersen (Ohio) and Jessica Lloyd (Minnesota) are doing a great job. They have been teaching English outreach classes, administering short-term mission teams, helping our new missionary language students, and serving in compassion ministries to children and street people. We are so blessed to have these young women working with us. Their zeal and love for the Lord is encouraging to us as well as to all those with whom they work. Please pray for their health and safety as they serve here in Costa Rica.
Our daughter Melanie was home from the Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador, for Easter break. She has returned to Quito for the last quarter of the school year before graduating in June. In July she will return to Minnesota to study at Northwestern College. Please pray that she will continue to do well in her classes and finish the year well. Also pray for her as she returns to the States to begin college. She has only lived in the States 3 years of her life, so it will be a new adjustment for her.
We are continually grateful to each one of you who supports us in prayer. We can feel the effects every day. Thank you for praying for our health and safety, as well as for our ministries. We can feel the presence of the Lord and we thank you for upholding us.
Thank you, also, to those of you who faithfully give to the Great Commission Fund of the C&MA. It is through your gifts to the GCF that we are supported and are able to minister here in Costa Rica. We are so thankful to have you on our team!
Thank you for being our partners.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
Serve.
Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
