Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

MARCH -APRIL (2011) PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. PRAY for my younger sister, Regina, who is not well. She continues to lose weight and presently only weighs around 65 pounds! Pray for wisdom for her doctor in how to help her gain weight.

2. PRAY for the construction of a "climbing wall" at Camp Good News from March 27-April 11. Pray for safety for Jack Eisenbach and his son, Simon, as they construct that wall.

3. PRAY for Awana training (SEED PLANTER'S-five day traing) that is presently be conducted in Kupang, Timor. Pray for Ken, Awana staff, who will remain afterwards to assist churches in opening an Awana club.

4. PRAY for the Awana Missionary Candidate School that will be held in Bali on April 17-27th. Several Awana Missionaries will be coming from other countries to receive this training. PRAY for me as I will be one of the teachers.

5. PRAY for the Holistic Child Development major at Jaffray Theological Seminary in Makassar, Sulawesi as they will be conducting their second module during April. Five students are enrolled in this master's level program. Pray for my co-worker, Ivone Palar, as she oversees this program as well as the Children's Ministry major which is taught on the bachelor level (15 students are enrolled in that program).

I returned from home assignment on Feb. 13th. I had a great time on my two tours and enjoyed meeting so many of my brothers and sisters in Christ--in central/upper New York, Roanoke, and Baltimore area. Also, I enjoyed those special times with family and loved ones.
I am "back into the swing" of ministries which helps me in adjusting to being back without my housemate, Peggy. Peggy and I lived together for 30 years.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

APRIL PRAYER REQUESTS

PRAY for our search for a new location/office for Awana Indonesia. Our present lease ends in mid-June. Pray for wisdom for us as we seek a new location and building.

PRAY for our summer camp committee as they meet to plan for our 4 camps in July. These camps will be held at Camp Good News--located around 2 hours from Jakarta. Over 500 children and youth will attend those camps and many life-changing decisions will be made for Christ.

PRAY for our Awana Indonesia board meeting on April 4-5. Pray for wisdom as we discuss and evaluate the Awana ministry in Indonesia.

PRAY for Ivone, my Indonesian co-worker, and me as we meet with our Camp Good News board members for our annual meeting on April 7th. Ivone will be meeting with her team of five and I will meet with mine and then we will meet together. Pray for wisdom as we do our 2008 camp budget and plan programs such as English Camp and Family Camp. The decisions made in those two meetings will be submitted to the board.

PRAY for me as I fly to Makassar, Sulawesi on April 9th to do an Awana Basic Training for three of our C&MA churches in Makassar. Already one C&MA church in Makassar is doing the Awana program. I will then fly to central Sulawesi, Palu, to visit the 2 Awana clubs in our C&MA churches there. I will also spend time with our Awana Missionary, Nur. Pray for Nur as she will go to Makassar for around a month to assist the new clubs. I return to Jakarta on April 19th.

PRAY for me as I fly to Kupang, Timor on April 24th to meet with our Alliance pastors. Once again I will meet with the workers in the Awana Club in our C&MA church. From there I will fly to the island of Sumba where I will do an Awana Basic Training in our C&MA churches there. I praise the Lord for these Alliance churches who are reaching their children with the Gospel and then assisting them to grow in their new faith.

PRAY for Ivone and I as we continue to up-grade the Children's Scholarship Program. Presently, we have around 200 needy C&MA children (many of them pastors' children) receiving educational assistance. We praise the Lord for the many sponsors who faithfully give $10 a month to make it possible for them to attend school.

MAY PLANS AND PRAYER/PRAISE REQUESTS

PRAISE the Lord for the good national church annual meeting held up at Camp Good News. I was able to fellowship with many of the district leaders and share about the children's ministry. Praise the Lord, a lot of interest is being expressed by many of them for evangelizing and discipling the children.

PRAISE the Lord for the good time I enjoyed at Jaffray Theoloical Seminary in Makassar last month. I enjoyed teaching the 11 students who are enrolled in the new Children's Ministry Major. Part of their assignment for course credit is to be involved in an Awana Club (we have 3 in our C&MA churches in Makassar) for six months. Also, the Awana Basic Training I conducted for 8 churches was a success. Thank you for your prayers.

PRAISE the Lord for the time I was able to share with our C&MA church in Palu, Sulawesi. I taught in the Sunday School Seminar for a day and much interest was shown. One group traveled overnight for over 8 hours to be able to attend that 2-day seminar! PRAY with me as I try to network with World Vision in that strongly persecuted area. Thank you for your prayers.

PRAISE the Lord our new 2-storey building at Camp Good News which was dedicated on April 22nd at the opening of the national church meeting. You can check on our camp web site (I will add that to the bottom of this page) to see photos of that new building. PRAY with us for the construction of a climbing wall at the camp. PRAISE the Lord for the gift of funds from Big Sandy Camp which will make that climbing wall possible. PRAY that we will be able to have someone come out and help with that construction. Also, we are in need of a small work group (5-8) people to do some minor repairs at Camp Good News. If you are your church are interested in helping please contact me via my e-mail or SKYPE. Please continue to PRAY for unity among some of our camp board members.

PRAY for me as I leave on April 29-May 9th for the islands of Sumba and Kupang. I will be meeting with several of our C&MA churches on those islands in regard to the Awana program they are using. PRAISE the Lord with us that many of our churches are wanting to use the Awana program to evangelize and disciple their children. PRAY for funds that are needed for some of them to buy their Awana books and shirts.

PRAY for me as I will be teaching in a large children's conference in the city of Bandung (West Java) on May 19-20. PRAY for wisdom as I prepare my lesson on "Maximizing Your Teaching Through Counselling Children". Also, I will be having an AWANA stand to share about the Awana ministry with leaders from other denominations that will be attending. I will be visiting two of our C&MA churches in Bandung to observe their Awana program.

CONTINUE TO PRAY for the Jakarta summer camp committee. We met on the 27th for 5 hours! PRAY for all the preparation and finances needed to conduct those four camp (June 30-July 11). PRAY that the Holy Spirit will already be working in the hearts of the children and youth (over 500) that will be attending!
