Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Happy New Year 2008

Dear Family and Friends,

We’re so grateful for your prayer support in 2007! Here are just a few reasons why:

Praises:

• Richard: Safety in travel. He had three trips to the US, traveled to Indonesia (Wendy and girls came on one of three Indonesia trips), Cambodia (Wendy and Tamara went on this one too), Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, and South Korea. Also, after considerable hassle and then a long wait for most of our belongings, which were held up at the Thai-Malaysian border, we finally completed a move from Malaysia back to Thailand. It’s great to be back in Thailand.
• Richard and Wendy: A successful October Regional Leadership Conference in Rayong, Thailand. Mission leaders from the region we serve, as well as C&MA leaders from our national office in Colorado Springs, gathered for a time of inspiration, instruction, challenge, and rest.
• Natalie: An opportunity to come home! Natalie joined us for Christmas after a grueling trip from California which included a long stopover in Osaka, Japan. We’re so glad she will be with us until January 27!
• Tamara Some special events. Tam had a good time on her class trip with the Karen (ethnic group from Burma) kids at a place called Mae Sot, near the Thai-Burmese border. She also had a wonderful time at a youth camp sponsored by Hume Lake, California. It took place at Klang Doi here in Chiang Mai about halfway up one of Thailand’s highest mountains (about 5,250 feet) which we see out our windows on every clear day.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

Prayer Requests:

• Natalie: As an Intercultural Studies major at Biola University, Natalie will be required to complete an internship next summer. Please pray that Natalie will know God’s leading to the right situation and location. She would like to do this in India or some other country in Asia.
• Tamara: In just five short months Tamara will graduate from Grace International School here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She anticipates taking a year off before beginning college and is seriously considering a short term Bible and discipleship program like the Discipleship Training School (DTS) sponsored by Youth With A Mission (YWAM). She would like to attend a DTS somewhere in a warm tropical climate and preferably near a beach! Please pray for God’s direction.
• Wendy: Our four year term is coming to a close and it’s time to think about returning to the US. The thought of packing things up and moving again (this will be the third time in four years) can be daunting! Please pray for wisdom and strength in making this move the most hassle free ever! We need God’s direction in deciding whether to locate for one year in California or New Jersey.
• Richard: When Richard spoke to the mission leaders last October he presented what he believed is God’s desire for the Asia Pacific Region. Here are the two main points:

1. The Power of the Holy Spirit: “That, from a posture of total surrender to God, we would all experience in fresh and deeper ways, the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our personal lives and in our ministries.”
2. Team Unity for God’s Glory: “From a strong conviction that we are lovingly created in the image of God, we would all contribute, in healthy and constructive ways, to effective teamwork for the sake of the Great Commission and the glory of God.”

Please join us in praying that this would be realized throughout the Asia Pacific Region in 2008 and beyond. May God be glorified!
