Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Sept. 2013

Hello,

First off, we want to thank all of you who have been faithfully praying for us despite the silence on our end. Our last prayer update was in June and now it is basically the end of August, beginning of September. Thank you so much for praying even though you weren’t sure what to pray for. God knew and answered.

As you know God confirmed to us that we should, can go back to Cambodia even as we wrestled with our parents’ health issues. Since then, we have been in somewhat of a whirlwind of activity: preparing, packing to return to Cambodia, speaking at the Vietnamese Annual Conference, arriving in Cambodia, going to our annual week long missionary conference, finding, moving and settling into our new house, preaching and meeting with the national church leaders (Martin), preparing and conducting the teachers training (Judy), Colette & Giselle going to school (it has been 3 weeks already) and various other activities. Yet in the midst of all of that, God has been faithful and sustained us.

As we look toward September, there are a number of issues we would appreciate your prayers for. Martin will be continuing to preach and having various meetings both formal and informal. He would ask that you pray for God to bless him with the ability to clearly and powerfully communicate God’s word and God’s truth. His Vietnamese has regressed a little bit so that preaching and meeting with people is quite challenging at times especially the preaching.

Judy is in the midst of getting things ready for the opening of the new school year which begins on September 2. She also will be speaking at the all NewHope Churches women’s meeting at the end of September. Please pray for God to bless Judy with wisdom and insight as she leads the schools and prepares her message.

Regarding Colette & Giselle, they are doing well. They like being back in school and seeing old friends as well as making new ones. While they are much more aware this time around of the differences between Cambodia and America, they haven’t expressed much displeasure with living back here. We would ask that you pray for them to continue to grow in their understanding and closeness to Jesus. Pray that God would to their knowledge of Him and allow it to permeate their hearts and lives.

We would also ask that you pray for the political situation in Cambodia. The national election occurred in July. The results are that the CCP (Cambodian People’s Party) won but barely. For the first time, the government will be more balanced between the two parties with the CCP having a slight majority (68 seats to 55 seats). The other party, CNRP (Cambodian National Rescue Party), has been very vocal about apparent discrepancies in the voting process. They have accused the CCP of manipulating the election results in their favor. As a result, there has been a lot of tension, fear among Cambodians and the Vietnamese as to what is going to happen. And as of today’s news, the CNRP has schedule a “peaceful” demonstration on Saturday, September 7th. Please pray that this demonstration will indeed be peaceful and that both parties will be able to form a coalition government quickly and mutually satisfying.

We also want to thank all of you who has been able to support us financially. If there is anyone who would like to financially support us or give a one-time gift, you can give in the following ways:

• Through a local Alliance church
• On line at http://www.cmalliance.org/give/
• By sending a check to the C&MA, PO Box 35000, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500.

You may designate your gift to specifically support us by writing “for the support of Martin & Judy Johns” on the memo line of a check. You may also give to our work special fund by writing on the memo line, “Martin & Judy Johns Work Special Fund.”

We thank God for each of you who give that we may serve our Lord and Savior in Cambodia among the Vietnamese.

In Christ Jesus,
Martin, Judy, Colette & Giselle
