Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

DEDICATION

What dedication these believers have shown – praying for nearly 20 years for a pastor and a permanent place of worship!

God has answered those prayers and we made it back to Japan just in time to attend the Dedication service for the newly purchased building of Sayama Alliance Church.

Since the start of the church by Alliance missionaries nearly 20 years ago, the believers have rented an office room to meet in. The rent alone was almost more than this young congregation could pay. When God answered their prayers and brought them a wonderful pastor, Rev. Miyoshi, several years ago, we were thrilled. They had waited many years for a Japanese pastor. At the same time, however, paying 2 rents (his apartment and the church room) was killing them.

Then suddenly, God brought to their attention a small office building that was for sale. They purchased it, renovated it, and have a wonderful new building. Now that they have their own building, the pastor can live in the church, thus saving even more money. (This is the standard practice in Japan.)

The building has a sanctuary on the 1st floor, and a multi-purpose room and the pastor’s apartment on the 2nd floor. (see stats on the left) You’ll notice the second floor is quite a bit larger than the 1st floor. That’s because about the parsonage portion is on “stilts” above a 3 or 4 car parking area.

The dedication of the building and the dedication of the believers was a great encouragement for us and for the believers of Sengendai church where we served last year. They are still waiting and praying for a building and a pastor.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

NEW LIFE
Praise God for recent baptisms and Sengendai and Kawaguchi churches!

NEW CHURCH PLANT
Please pray with us as we seek God's direction in starting a new church plant.

TRANSITION
Please pray for Dick and Janice Kropp as they have come out of retirement and returned to the field to oversee the final stages of transition of Sengendai Church to the national church. As the C&MA is unable to provide any finances for them, please pray that they would be able to raise all of the necessary funds to come this August.

PASTOR
Japan faces a shortage of workers, and our church has waited 20 years for a pastor. Please pray that God will provide pastors for the Japan Alliance Church, and for Sengendai Church in particular.

PERMANENT BUILDING
The Sengendai Church pays over $2,500 each month for rent of a small space. (This is paid by the Japanese believers, not the Mission.) This rent prohibits us from saving much for our own building and also will make it very hard to support a pastor. Please pray that God would provide a permanent building for us soon.

SALVATION OF FAMILY MEMBERS
It is very uncommon in Japan to have "Christian" families. Usually one in a family is a believer. Please pray that the spouses and children of our members would open their hearts to Christ.

GOD'S WORK AMONG THE JAPANESE - Please pray for a great outpouring of the Spirit in Japan, resulting in the salvation of many.

Get Involved...

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
