Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Dear friend,

It has been a busy month of ministry, yet it has been dotted throughout with many blessings. Last month we asked you to make two items a matter of prayer: 1) the transition of a new family to our field and 2) a women’s outreach event on January 6th.

The family whom we were expecting arrived without any hiccups in the process and has made a great start to their new life here. They have begun language study, and VJ was able to attend the January 6th event in our home, then their entire family participated in another outreach event which took place spontaneously a week later (on the 14th).

Can we just say to you, “Thank you for praying!” The women’s outreach event went fantastic! We had many more than we planned for the afternoon of the 6th, and I (Wendy) ended up scrambling last minute to figure out how to add more food. Our home was filled to the brim with guests. It was an afternoon of celebration with food, games, crafts, and lots of laughter. And best of all was that my unbelieving friend was able to come. I hadn’t been able to get in touch with her for a really long time, so I was praying for a miracle. Then, she called! She came, AND she heard the story of Christ’s birth perhaps for the first time! PTL!!!

The following weekend we had another very large event, attended by some 75+ people. The idea for the event was spontaneously initiated on a Thursday afternoon, and came together a few days later on Sunday. The cultural event/outreach included national dances, worship in a CA language, and a presentation of the Gospel. One person came to Christ there. PTL!!!

In addition to the conversion at the outreach, shortly afterwards a man whom we’ll call Abel placed his faith in Christ during our home church meeting (the 21st) and then a week later a young lady came to Christ (the 28th). “Abel” had performed a national dance routine at the cultural event (on the 14th) and is a close friend of Caleb & Maggie, the ones who came to Christ late last fall. We continue to be amazed as we become more involved in kingdom work among CAers and are filled with joy to have the opportunity to see some fruit.

After both events in January, I (Wendy) got very sick and needed quite a bit of down time to recuperate. I confess that I was not very spiritual in rejoicing at the salvation of the one who came to Christ. Instead I found myself grumbling and complaining about how it seemed like I always end up shouldering more than I planned for. But a few days later God showed me a different picture. Through a brief conversation with our national partner’s wife, I was reminded of how much of a burden others are carrying too. Tammy had been hosting 10 guests nonstop in her home for 2 weeks. That’s when I had a change of heart and asked God to forgive me for my attitude.
