Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

February 2011

Dearest Family and Friends,

HAPPY NEW YEAR from Mongolia!
It was so great to hear from many of you during the Christmas season. And now it is already 2011. The Mongolian New Year, or White Moon celebration is being celebrated this week, February 3-5. It is one of the two biggest celebrations of the year. At this time, Mongolians all over the country gather together with their families and take time to honor those who are the eldest in their families. They eat buuz (meat filled steamed dumplings), eat other white food and give gifts. Then they will visit other friends and neighbors in their communities. It is also said to be the official end of winter. That is good news for us since we have had weather as low as -38, not counting wind-chill factor.

Ministry Prayer Requests

Praise the Lord for the good things that have been happening in our Grain of Wheat Community Center. Pray that it will continue to be a great meeting place and a lighthouse in the community
1. Pray for our Mongolian staff. We have gone through some difficult situations, and are feeling the attack of the enemy on these young believers. Pray that they will grow in their faith through these difficulties, and that they will allow God to do the work that He wants to in their lives.
2. Pray for our EFL classes that Marilyn and Christina Wahlen are teaching. We have over 40 students, many of them from middle class. Pray for intentional relationships that lead into spiritual interaction.
3. We will be going to the Regional Leadership Meetings for Field Director couples in our region in mid-February. Pray for a good time of learning, as well as fellowship and physical and spiritual refreshment.
4. Pray for Dennis as he leads the Field Leadership Team meetings later in February. Pray for wisdom for the many decisions that need to be made regarding assignments and direction for our work and ministry here in Mongolia.
5. Pray for the approval for the registration of the international church here in Ulaanbaatar. After the approval we can then obtain a visa for a pastor. Pray for the person of God's choosing.

We were blessed this past Christmas season by going to NA and being with our family. We are so thankful for every opportunity to be with our loved ones. We really enjoy the time with our kids and grandkids, and were also able to see other family and friends. Also, Dennis has to get his eye checked every year and this was the best time to do that. Praise the Lord, his eye is stable and the doctor said he just needs to continue with his eye drops and medicine.

Personal Prayer Requests

1. Pray for our walk with God, that we continue to grow in our intimacy with Him.
2. Pray for our health. This is the coldest time of year, and the city of Ulaanbaatar is polluted with the smoke from the burning of coal from the heating plant for the city and the individual homes that surround the city. We are struggling with colds and coughs.
3. Pray for Dennis’ eye, that it will remain stable. He has daily medication and eye drops. Pray for complete healing.
4. Praise the Lord, our daughter Joy, who had struggled with mononucleosis for many months is now feeling strong and back to full-time in her ministry and responsibilities at the International House of Prayer. We celebrated together with her and Aaron their 6 month anniversary and our 35th anniversary on December 20.
5. Pray for our son Jonathan and his family who are recovering from coughs, colds, chest congestion, pneumonia, ear infections. Please pray for God's complete healing on Jon, Rachael and their three little girls, Eva, Marah and Nadia, and for His strength and grace in their life, work and Jon's ministry at the Alliance Redwoods.
6. Praise the Lord that Silas, JoAnna and Trevor's little boy, has completely recovered from a ruptured appendix and is doing well, having fun playing with his sister Katherine. Pray for wisdom for JoAnna and Trevor as they parent their little ones.
7. We are still looking for renters for our house in Wisconsin. Pray that we can find someone soon to rent while we are in Mongolia.

Thank You
We are blessed by those of you who faithfully pray for us, our family and our ministry here in Mongolia. Thank you especially for giving to the Great Commission Fund. It is through your sacrificial giving to the GCF that we along with 850 others are able to minister in 54 countries around the world.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.
