Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
Dear Family and Friends,
A couple of days ago--August 31st--the highways coming into Spain’s capital, Madrid, were jammed with summer vacationers returning from hundreds of coastal and inland towns of Spain. Although some people get time off at other times of the summer and year, the majority of Spaniards take their vacation in August. We thoroughly enjoy being in Madrid during August as there is far less congestion than at other times of year.
This past week Alcala, the bedroom community of Madrid where we live, celebrated their yearly town festival. On Saturday there was an exciting parade in the evening and at midnight a spectacular fireworks display! Every town and city in Spain has a yearly festival which vary from one another. However, they often include fireworks, bull fights, cultural events, parades and food events.
In mid-August, the Chinese Alliance church of Madrid – held its first retreat since it was established seven years ago. We worked with 13 Spanish speaking Chinese youth during the 24 hour retreat! Yes, it was short but it was a start. Hopefully, next year they can do a longer retreat. Most of the people in the church work six and a half days a week, only closing their stores on Sunday afternoon to be able to attend church. For many it was the only vacation day they took this summer. At the edge of the swimming pool at the Christian camp, one 28 year-old woman told us that this was the first time she had been in a pool in her entire life!
Youth who are willing to carry your cross! – This past Sunday the youth at the Chinese church put on a skit about carrying your cross. They made numerous crosses and marched around the church to the tune of “The Wonderful Cross” by Chris Tomlin. Actually not all of those involved have made open decisions for Christ so pray that their hearts will be tender to Jesus!
Sixteen people of all ages were baptized in mid-August. – All of these attend one of the Madrid Alliance churches. Although we normally do not attend the Alliance of Love church, we were privileged to be there on that Sunday and to see these men and women take this wonderful step of faith and obedience. Two weeks later, this same church received 34 people into membership. Both of these occasions were extremely spiritually uplifting and God-centered!
Family Focus –
Last month we told you that our daughter Alison and husband Jon were expecting their first child. She later learned after a visit to the doctor that she had already lost the baby. It was a big disappointment to them and us but God is healing Alison and Jon emotionally! Continue to pray!
Amber is settling in nicely in her new living and working situation in the Portland, OR area. She has found some wonderful roommates and has a parttime job. She continues to look for a bit more work!
Brad, just finished six weeks of training in Maryland and is now in Utah for another six weeks. He is being trained to fly UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and is scheduled to go overseas in late October. We praise the Lord that he is really enjoying his job!
Emily, left Spain about a month ago. Since then she attended a retreat for missionary kids, spent some time with her Uncle Dan & Aunt Tina, as well as hanging out with Jon and Alison in Sacramento. This Friday she will travel down to Azusa, CA with Alison and Jon to begin school.
We have just completed our first “child-less” month. It is a big adjustment but God is with us!
Thanks for your continuing support – of the Great Commission Fund which enables us, along with 600 other missionaries, to serve in several dozen countries around the world. Your gifts to Alliance Missions do make a difference!
Want to Help? Here´s how you can give to the work in Spain and around the World...
Through your local church. Mark your gift: "Great Commission fund" (GCF) in order to support the vital outreach of Alliance missions around the world, including our regular salary. Also, if you want to support our specific ministry, mark your gift: "Work of Gordon and Kathie Munro--Spain". The GCF does not cover many costs that we have for our ministry.
You can also give to these same needs via the C&MA website: www.cmalliance.org. Click on "Give". Or by sending a check to: C&MA, Box 3500, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500. Mark your gifts accordingly.
Blessings in Christ,
Gordon & Kathie Munro
Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer
1. We praise the Lord that our son Brad got a good job in his field of aviation. He is presently receiving some training in Utah. Pray for him as he will be going overseas with this job near the end of October.
2. The Bilinguil Camp at the Life and Family Church in Madrid went off well in early July. The two-week long camp ministered to around 20 kids and their families.
3. Pray for the Chinese youth meetings during September. We will be talking on the theme: The Purpose Driven Life. Some of the youth have either not accepted Christ yet or have not openly declared their faith. Others need to grow stronger in their walk with Jesus.
4. From October 1st to 4th, we will be ministering in a small Alliance church in a coastal city of Spain. Pray that we will know how to best prepare and that this will be a blessing to the pastor and the congregation in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
5. We will be on home assignment from early January to early July, 2010. Pray as we prepare for this and also that God will use us to encourage people in their commitment in the area of missions.
6. Our youngest child, Emily, starts college in early September in California. Pray for her adjustment to life and classes. Pray, too, for us as we settle into life without kids (at jhome that is). We are looking forward to Emily coming to Spain for Christmas.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
