“………the dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Some of you may not receive this newsletter until after the holidays, but let me wish everyone a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It’s at this season of the year that we celebrate one of the most incredible events in human history; God putting on human flesh in order that light might shine in the darkness. Sometimes it seems as if we live and serve in darkness, but there are rays of light in this country. Let me just share a few of the many bright spots here in Krasnodar and Southern Russia, and enlist your prayer support.

ARMAVIR: I have been working with Sergei Kvak in the city of Armavir for several months now. In spite of a few setbacks the work is moving ahead. The church is meeting in a house, but we expect that the meeting place, an addition on the house, will be completed in the spring. Sergei and his family will move to the city in the summer and their children will start attending school in the fall. The group is still small but we have seen a few visitors and a couple of people have come to Christ. Pray for Sergei’s wife Anya who has struggled with some illnesses that have Kept Sergei at home a lot. Pray for me as I make the three hour journey there each week. Pray for Natasha a single mother of two who recently accepted Christ.
ESSENTUKI AND INOZEMTSEVO: I am continuing to work with two churches in the Stavropol region of Russia, usually a six hour train ride to get there. With ‘Natural Churdch Growth’ as a tool we evaluated both churches and identified a need in the area of spiritual gifts. After a seminar on spiritual gifts the leaders and people active in the church began the process of identifying and and using their spiritual gifts. At the moment the church leaders are interviewing individuals key people in the church in order to clarify the gifts and properly place them in ministry. Both pastors have been encouraged by the process. Pray that God would work in these churches to bring encourage and excitement about ministry.
MAIKOP: Maikop is another church not far from Krasnodar that has completed an assessment with the Natural Church Growth tool. Alexander Sakharov, the District Superintendent and I are working with the leaders to help them through the process of strengthening their worship services. They are a committed group of leaders and are anxious to strengthen their church. Pray for us as we meet with them monthly.
VISAS AND SUCH: I am still in the process of leaving the country every three months to get a new visa. Thankfully, we have found creative ways to minimize the cost and time for these procedures, but it will be good to be on work visas again. Work visas allow a person to stay for up to three years without having to leave the country for renewal. Pray for our missionaries here that our presence here would continue to be possible and less complicated.
I will be going home on my home assignment at the end of February for three months. During four weeks of that assignment I will be on tour in the Ohio Valley District. Please pray with me for the preparations for these weeks of travel and ministry.
Thank you for your support and prayers. That is very important to us. Right now, during these difficult economic times, our sending organization, The Christian and Missionary Alliance, is also experiencing financial struggles. As we near the end of the year, think about giving a little extra to the Great Commission Fund, if you are able. The address is below, as well as other financial needs. And as always we cherish your prayers for the ministry here in Russia, and around the world, as we bring light to dark places, in God’s strength.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.
