January 23, 2012 Update

Dear Family and Friends,

Hello from Omaha, Nebraska where I am on Home Assignment from Gabon, Africa and the Bongolo Hospital. I left Gabon and the equator on December 2nd and arrived in Omaha December 3rd, in a snow storm. My return to Gabon is planned for June 8th.

Friends have allowed me to live in their empty Townhouse for these six months. It was then furnished by my Omaha Christ Community Church Sunday School class, Dayspring. The townhouse is lovely and really is a blessing to me. All my worldly possessions in the States (lots of plastic bins) had already been transferred to the house and I've had fun going through old photos, mementos, etc.

I will be on Mission's conference "tour" in the MidAmerica conference in February and March. The churches where I'll be speaking are in Western Iowa and Eastern Kansas. I've already done some speaking here in Omaha though and welcome other times to share about my work at the Bongolo Hospital.

I want to thank you for your prayers for me and for the hospital. Thanks for your contributions to the Great Commission Fund, the fund that supports me here in Gabon.

I keep my blog up to date so for further information click on my blog link to the right on this page. I also keep the Bongolo Hospital website going at: www.bongolohospital.org.

Below find prayer requests both for the hospital and for me.

Blessings,
Carolyn

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

1. Pray for me as I prepare to speak and as I speak in various small groups and churches during my Home Assignment in the States.
2. Pray for the Bongolo Hospital water system which is having problems with its filter.
3. Although a second internet server was added to the Bongolo Hospital satellite network, the Internet continues to work very slowly. Pray for wisdom to figure out why and that the problem be fixed.
4. Pray for the ten Nursing students at the Bongolo Hospital, for their studies and for their practical work. Pray they keep growing in the Lord. In addition to their Nursing classes, they are doing a Theological Education by Extension course on "Marriage and the Family".
5. Pray for three medical workers who are in Europe studying French, in preparation for working at Bongolo. They are Drs Zach and Jen O'Connor and also nurse Amanda Martin.
6.Pray for a rapid and economical construction of the new Emergency Room building at Bongolo.
7. Pray that my health continue to remain good. I have had two short bouts of asthma flareup since arriving in the States the first part of September. When my asthma makes me cough, I have problems doing public speaking. Right now my asthma is under control.
Thanks for praying.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to participate in a short-term missions trip and experience missions work firsthand? We’re here to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
