MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
This is the time of year we all enjoy so much! The swamp coolers are running at night so our house has the feel of a winter chill in the morning. School ended a whole week earlier this year, so we were able to get a jump start on the Christmas festivities. As we decorated for the season we were reminded of past Christmases. When the kids were small we helped them to create a business to earn money for Christmas gifts. As we unpacked the sequent adorned ornaments we could just picture Abby sticking all of those pins into the Styrofoam balls. Her little fingers were so sore after all of her hard work, but with each sale, the pain slowly diminished. Then we unwrapped the painted star shaped candle holders. That was the first project Micah was able to get involved in. Controlling the red and green paint was his first business challenge. In the end, the kids earned their money, and they could make their very own Christmas purchases. Oh the memories!

This year, Andrew Burg, a former MK to Burkina Faso, asked for Abby’s hand in marriage, and she gladly accepted. Thus begins the time in our lives when we begin to share our kids with others. This Christmas Abby will not be with us for the holidays, rather she will be travelling to Minnesota to spend the holidays with the Burg Family. It will be a great opportunity for Abby to meet family, and friends from Andrew’s side of the family. Their wedding is planned for June 19th at Delta Lake, in upstate New York. Andrew is a recent graduate of Crown College, and Abby is in her sophomore year at Houghton College in New York.

Micah just turned 16, and for his birthday, Larry handed down his Yamaha 100 motorcycle. He continues to grow, but he has not yet passed his father. He and Larry are training for the SOFANWET Softball Tournament that is coming to Ouagadougou in early February. Micah is planning to go to the LIFE 2010 Youth Conference in Lousiville, KY this summer. To pay for his trip, Micah started up a pizza business here in Ouagadougou. Between work, school, and youth group, Micah is keeping himself quite busy.

Karen is having a great year at ISO. She is teaching in the Middle School and loving it. She has some really great classes that make teaching all the easier. There are also those who are facing some learning challenges and the resources available here are limited, so this summer Karen will begin course work in educational therapy. It will make for a busy summer with all of the activities we have planned, but it is something she is looking forward to pursuing.

Larry is busy as ever keeping mission business in order as well as managing all of the building projects around town. This past year we worked alongside a dozen teams or so as they came and contributed to the work here in Ouagadougou. The exciting news is that all of the construction projects have progressed thanks to faithful supporters of the work here. Churches, roofs, schools, a team center, a house, and benches were built this past year. Plus tons of grain was purchased and delivered to many here in Burkina Faso. When the teams for the fall months cancelled, it was a bit disappointing, but then came the flood of 2009. Reflecting back, we were very happy to have the time available to work on flood relief and the restoration of the mission office.

A real blessing this year has been our involvement at the Balkuy Church plant. Today we will be hosting the Tandamba Family, the pastor of Balkuy, his wife, and daughter, for a Christmas Eve dinner. Then we are off to church to sing and fellowship with the rest of the congregation until about midnight. It is about 45 kilometers round trip on very rough roads. Last week we held a second outreach to the community. We showed a movie, the pastor gave a message and then dinner was served. Around 150 people attended. PRAY as we journey out there each week and try to be an encouragement to the church.

PRAYER REQUESTS
This week we learned that there are hundreds of people who will be left homeless after January 10th. At a town hall meeting Pasco, one of our workers, and the people in her area of sector 30 were told that they need to vacate their homes before January 10th to make way for new construction. They all need to relocate before then because the entire area is going to be bulldosed. PRAY for these families as they find solutions to their living situations. PRAY that this would be an opportunity for us to share our faith with them as they face difficult times.

Karen’s father will begin chemo this next month. PRAY for him as he endured the treatments. Abby’s wedding is in June and we would love to have him there. PRAY for us also as we are so far away and cannot be much help to the family.

PRAY for discernment for our future. The work here in Burkina is coming to a close in the coming years. We are praying and seeking out God’s direction for whatever He has in store for us.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
