SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER:
Cultural Adventures…
How many stores did you go to this week for groceries? Well, here’s my day of shopping…First Store – Lunch Meat, Cheese, eggs. Second Store – Bread, Cereal, Laundry Detergent. Third store – Chicken and Ground Beef. THEN it’s down to the Damascus Gate (a 6-7 minute walk) to find fresh fruits and vegetables!

Okay…so I don’t go to all the stores in one day usually, but as you can tell, shopping here is quite an adventure and very time consuming! And on top of going different places, we had to be “introduced” to shopkeepers by a local person in order to get the “local” prices…otherwise we pay tourist prices! This has been just one of our many adventures since we arrived!

Daily Life…
We spend about 30 hours a week studying Hebrew so right now most of our time is spent with our new classmates from around the world. We enjoy spending time with our classmates and getting to know them. We have an awesome class!

Also, this month is RAMADAN, the month of fasting and important spiritual rituals for Muslims. Every Friday this month 100,000+ Muslims pour into the Old City to pray near the Dome of the Rock. It is a reminder to us of the spiritual darkness here and the need for Light.

Personal Update…
We have been so blessed and encouraged in the last month by your prayers! Our adjustment has honestly been much easier (so far) than we expected! We have been surrounded by great teammates who have sacrificed many hours to help us get acclimated.

We have an awesome neighbor who has helped us do daily things like shop for bread, clean our floors, and COOK some Arabic meals!

We are learning a lot in Hebrew class (although it’s a lot of hard work!). And we feel finally settled in our new home. Our biggest personal challenge has been Timmy getting sick – we think he got rubella (German measles) and it was pretty rough on his little body which is always hard on the parents too! Our other big struggle has been just always feeling like “beginners” – we don’t know how to do anything or where to buy what we need! And some days that can really wear on us. So we thank God for all of you who have thought of us this month and lifted up prayers for us.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

Will you pray for us right now and continue to do so throughout the month? Here are a few prayer requests:
1. Timmy’s health – he’s got a lot of new germs and foods to get used to, especially now that he’s going to daycare!
2. Patience with a culture that is very different from what we are used to. And a love for the people we interact with.

Get Involved...

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
