LIFE 2007

The future is “Vintage” in Orlando

*“Sweet!” definitely describes the Vintage theme car*—a 1973 Dodge Challenger that was completely transformed for this event. The awesome parallel was the Holy Spirit’s amazing transformation of about 7,500 students and sponsors who attended LIFE 2007 in Orlando, Florida, July 3–7. Now, that was sweet! We are rejoicing in the goodness of the Lord. No one could walk away unchanged!

Francis Chan, Kent Julian, Jason Ostrander, Kevin Queen, The Skit Guys, Dan Seaman, Brennan Manning, Todd Adams and Steve Fitzhugh challenged the very souls of the participants as God’s words flowed from each of them, calling everyone to focus on Jesus—the real Jesus, only Jesus!

Students participated in mind-stretching seminars that encouraged interaction and discussion on various relevant topics. The small church youth group meetings each day helped the youth to solidify their thinking as they shared with their sponsors and peers, enabling them to process and understand how, when they return home, they can put into action everything they were taking in during their five days at LIFE.

Outreach was an integral part of LIFE 2007. Student teams, totaling more than 380 students, made their mark on the city by working with “Hands On Orlando” in various projects. One group cleaned up and painted a school and then donated various games (such as foosball tables, basketballs and hoops and hula hoops) to the bright-eyed students and principal. And more than 200 other students worked alongside of two of our Alliance church plants to help them touch their communities. It was incredible!

On one night only, we introduced LIFE-ers to Project 1-3-2 (“1” continent to expose, “3” hours to entertain and “2” ways to engage students with the C&MA’s ongoing ministry in West Africa). On Saturday morning the students sacrificially gave more than $114,000 to Project 1-3-2 for future ministries in Africa.

The Africa Experience, Sacred Space and The Trip—all opportunities for students to experience God in new ways—were always packed. Tracy Irvine writes, “We even had 70 people in the first 15 minutes Sacred Space was open on Saturday. Crazy!” Praise the Lord!

Approximately 400 young people made decisions for salvation, and on Saturday morning more than 1,700 students went forward to commit to serving the Lord full time. Our church is in great hands. God is at work in the lives of our Alliance youth.

As LIFE 2007 executive director, I would like to thank all of you who have faithfully prayed for this event. Without prayer, none of what happened in Orlando would have come to pass. Rejoice with us!
