Prayer Is Primary

As reported in the Sept/Oct 2015 issue.

Requests from Our Alliance Family

Burkina Faso

Pastor Desiree and his wife, Veronique, are 2009 graduates of the Alliance Maranatha Bible Institute. Recently, Desiree accepted an appointment at the church in Orodara, the provincial capital of the Kenedougou region, where the Lord is working in amazing ways. Desiree also will serve as school chaplain and teach Bible classes at the Alliance Christian Middle/High School. Veronique will focus on personal evangelism and shepherding women and children who currently attend the church.

During this first year of operation, 52 students enrolled in the school. The director is a key member of the new church, whose vision includes reaching the students and their families for Christ, as well as becoming a focal point for local evangelism.

Pray for the many people who will hear the gospel through the Orodara Church, for good relationships between the church and other local evangelical organizations, and for a spirit of unity and cooperation in the common goal of reaching this region for Christ.

Since returning from home assignment last year, I’ve been busy teaching English, being part of a developing church, and serving as our team language coach for our new learners. We anticipate beginning a church plant in a city where there are no known believers. Pray for God to call a Kosovar couple/family with whom to launch this work.

This summer our church hosted the first of three English camps planned in the cities where our national partner network has churches. My teammate Melissa did the bulk of the work, and our summer intern and I helped. We had 18 kids, and they all seemed to have a fun learning experience. We already had relationships with most of them from English class or the church, but there were new ones, too. Pray for open doors for relationships with the families of the children who attended these camps.

Praise God for the children in a Sunday school class at the Breath of Life church in Guadalajara, whose hearts are open to God’s Word. Pray that as they hear His stories and learn about Jesus’ love for them, they will come to love Him and receive Him as Savior.

Recently in language school, at the end of Brian’s Thai Society module, the teacher said, “We have some extra time during this class. Brian, why don’t you take 10–15 minutes and tell us all what Christians believe?”

So, in front of his Thai teacher and Japanese classmates, all of them Buddhist, Brian did his best to present the gospel and gave his testimony in Thai. One student was interested in learning more, and Brian e-mailed her some Japanese gospel tracts. Pray that she will come to know Jesus and for Brian as he represents Christ in the classroom.
