The Logical Argument for Sending New Workers

By

We recently asked Alliance international workers to answer a simple question: “Why should The Alliance continue to send new workers?” Their responses were thoughtful and heartfelt. Here are just a few:

  • “New workers provide fresh eyes in a culture we’ve grown accustomed to. They bring fresh ideas and creative proposals. Their enthusiasm energizes the whole team.” —Kathy Eikost in Bosnia-Herzegovina
  • “Spirit gives birth to spirit. We need more sources of the Spirit in our country. There are so many people here that we could live 20 lifetimes and never reach them all.” —Paul Beeman in Senegal
  • “As a former leader once put it, ‘New recruits are the love language of missionaries and fields.’ But it’s not just love for us missionaries but also for the local people, the service of Christ, and the glory of God.” —Jeremy Bergevin in Mongolia

As you can see, our workers are sold out to their calling to go and make disciples. In spite of their hard work and dedication, they regularly imagine how much more could be done if newly prepared men and women were sent to serve alongside them.

But with more than 40 percent of earth’s inhabitants still walking toward the tragic prospect of a Christless eternity, the most compelling reason to send new workers remains the skillfully crafted logical argument the Apostle Paul put forth in his letter to the Romans:

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? (10:13–15).

As U.S. Alliance President John Stumbo reminds us, “Every soul deserves the opportunity to hear the gospel. And every Alliance person deserves the opportunity to help create gospel access for those who have not yet heard.” For more than 130 years, the U.S. Alliance family has extended the reach of the good news by sending and supporting new workers. You can continue this tradition by participating in the 2018 Alliance Year-End Offering in your local Alliance church or online.

Sixty new international positions have opened this year. Several new workers are ready to go. Dozens more are being prepared as you read this. God’s call on us to send them is as sure as His call on them to go.
