Most young people in Taiwan would not consider stepping into a traditional Taiwanese church. Instead they fill their time with enjoying entertainment, shopping, and restaurants. The Ximen Ding district of Taipei is just that kind of place.

Work and Living Environment:

The appointee(s) will work with a team consisting of multi-national leaders and will be living in a country where the standard of living is equal to that in the United States. Specific housing options will be explored after appointment.

Status of Christian Witness:

Buddhism and Taoism predominate—93 percent of Taiwan’s population practices these religions. Only 4.5 percent are Christians, and the other 2.5 percent are categorized as “various.”

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend language study. Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Taiwan. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.

Health Considerations:

CDC – Taiwan

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc. Spouses are considered equal partners on the team and must share a clear calling to cross-cultural ministry. The couple will be expected to be involved in hospitality, personal witness, discipleship, and mentoring.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

The team will advise the appointee(s) where to enroll their children.

Once appointed, funds must be subscribed through the applicant’s network of friends and family, local church, or other resources. Cost information will be made available upon application.

Whole-Life Health:

The C&MA is an evangelical denomination committed to planting churches both in the United States and internationally. Due to the nature of this ministry opportunity, part of the required qualifications include optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed as you move forward in the application process.

Important Clarification:

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
