You will build meaningful and impactful relationships while teaching English at a college level school and training future leaders at an international institute. You have the potential to impact the central Asia region by investing in tomorrow’s leaders. You will join a Korean-American couple (CAMA) who seeks to demonstrate Christ’s compassion through immediate relief and long-term development that transforms lives and restores communities. If you are creative, motivated, and have a call to followers of this country’s majority religion, this might be the place for you to fulfill your ministry calling.

Required Qualifications:

  • Clear conversion and call to the ministry of the gospel
  • A recognized degree in TEFL/TESOL or a certificate w/experience
  • Completion of Missions Perspectives course
  • Completion of Alliance Polity course
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with the local team and its goals
  • A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 60 and higher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of teaching experience
  • Cross cultural training and/or experience
  • Flexible and able to make a healthy adjustment to the local culture
  • Proactively develops relationships

  • Ability to articulate personal conversion and call
  • Demonstrated heart for the poor and marginalized
  • Theological alignment with The Alliance
  • Demonstrated flexibility and grace in all aspects of life


  • Healthy, growing relationship with Christ
  • Maintain a good working relationship with team members
  • Regularly connect with the larger church in the capital city through monthly prayer times
  • Prepare teaching lessons in a timely manner for fall and spring semesters
  • Offer an annual English camp once per year using this time to train interns/teachers (both foreign and domestic)
  • Help host interns and/or short-term teams
  • Work in relational outreach, discipleship, and leadership development
  • Communicate regularly with supporters

General Information:

As a CAC, more detailed information on this country will be given during the application and appointment process. This bilingual country has a population of 5.7 million (July 2017) composed of three major ethnic groups and many other smaller groups. Most of the population lives in rural areas; one third live in urban areas. The capital city is the largest city with more than 900,000 inhabitants.

Currently, the team is involved in teaching principles of servant leadership at the institute, ESL at a college level school, discipleship, children’s development program, and more.

Work and Living Environment:

More than likely, you will live in the capital city.  The host institute will provide the ESL teacher with an apartment.

Language Expectations:

One year of formal language learning in one of the country’s two official languages is required. An additional year may be necessary. There are many language institutes to choose from in the city.

Health Considerations:

Modern, American-style health care is not available. Generally the medical personnel are knowledgeable but the system lacks the modern health care technology available in the United States. It is hard to find medical staff who speak English or were trained in the West. Some local, private, pay-for-service clinics offer quality basic and emergency care. Serious medical conditions should be addressed in Western Europe.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s giftings, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

Educational options are as follows:

  1. Local public schools (generally inadequate for proper learning)
  2. Homeschooling
  3. Hope Academy (provides a quality international education from a biblical worldview for preschool to high-school age youth)
  4. Quality School of International (offering quality education in English for preschool through high-school age students)

Compensation Package:

The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through friends and family, the sending church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and coaching in fundraising is available.

Important Clarification:

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
