Retired Missionary to Irian Jaya Dies

Marion Louise Doble, missionary to Irian Jaya, went to be with the Lord on April 12 in Shoreline, Washington. She was 84. Doble served with the C&MA from 1947 to 1990.

Doble attended Simpson Bible Institute and Pacific College before attending Missionary Training Institute at Nyack, New York. She then attended the Wycliffe Summer Institute of Linguistics and served with Wycliffe in Mexico for her home service. In 1947, she was appointed by the C&MA to western Irian Jaya and spent most of her missionary career in the Wissell Lakes region. Except for one term as secretary in the field mission office, Doble spent her time translating the Old and New Testaments into the Ekari language. In later years, she was an honorary translation advisor for the United Bible Societies and participated in workshops for training translators, expatriates, and nationals.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Crista Ministries Chapel in Shoreline. Memorials for Marion may be given through The Christian and Missionary Alliance for the Bible school in Irian Jaya.
