In October, Bryan Johnston was critically injured while unloading stage equipment for a worship session at Tides Church (C&MA). A 900-pound box fell on his back, damaging his neck and paralyzing him. On the ambulance ride to the hospital, Johnston felt nothing but numbness from his neck down. He underwent neck surgery and is now improving.
“It's a miracle that I can move my legs,” Johnston said recently. The dislocation of a vertebrae in neck likely would have paralyzed him for life. Doctors informed him 98 percent of patients with this type of injury end up as quadriplegics.
“Doctors have been coming from all over Loma Linda to see me and to see that I can move my legs,” Johnston said. He believes that his recovery is due to the prayers and support he has received the church and from Alliance people across the country. “Literally thousands of people from all four corners of the world are praying for us,” he said. “Even in Egypt!” added his wife, Deborah.
