Fred Smith’s Son-in-Law Killed in Iraq

Scott Oswell, the son-in-law of Fred and Marilyn Smith (Alliance missionaries and National Office employees), died in a helicopter crash in Iraq on Tuesday, July 3, 2007. Oswell’s co-pilot survived the crash but suffered major injuries.

An Army pilot, Oswell was married to the Smiths’ daughter, Sherry.

Scott’s body is being flown back to the States, and he will be buried in Logan Cemetery in Colorado. He leaves behind his wife and three children ages 13, 11, and 4. 
 
Fred Smith currently is a professor at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. 
 
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, in Washington. Scott’s ashes will be flown to Denver’s Ft. Logan where another memorial service will be held on Friday, July 13 (the time is yet to be determined).
