A strong 8.0 earthquake has rocked Peru’s costal areas. Pisco, a city of 110,000, sustained major damages, as well as the cities of Cincha, Ica, and Canete; the C&MA has churches in each of these municipalities.
At least 500 deaths have been reported at this time, including one church member, a young girl from Ica. Many Alliance people have lost homes, although an exact count has not yet been received.
One church was severely damaged, and it is likely that others were affected. Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA), The Alliance’s relief and development arm, has established a relief fund (Peru Earthquake Relief) to assist in this crisis. An initial $15,000 has been made available to assist Peruvian church members and others devastated by this disaster.
