Land Dispute Leads to Spiritual Harvest

“When the boundary markers were officially set for the church property,” says an Alliance international worker, “the older children of the Samorogouan land chief angrily ripped up the markers, stating that they hadn’t been paid.”

Recently, the worker’s husband and his Alliance colleague have seen the mighty hand of God work in the hearts of people in the Kendougou region. In Samorogouan, missionaries and church leaders met opposition when they purchased property to build a church. The most recent actions by the chief’s family led to the tedious task of proving all regulations had been followed to construct the church. “Even after construction had begun, the family of the land chief showed up again, blocking the work,” says the worker.

But what the enemy meant for evil God has used for His glory. “The anger that was focused on the church has turned into respect,” the worker continues, “as people took notice of the integrity of our believers in this difficult situation. Many people have come by to visit church members and ask questions, wanting to know more about what makes the believers act differently.”

One of the men who pulled up the boundary markers and tried to stop the building project accepted Christ at a recent evangelistic event. Another man, invited by his neighbor to church, trusted in Jesus during the service. Then he brought three friends back that afternoon to talk to some of the church believers, and they chose to follow the Lord as well. That night during an evangelism meeting, they came forward in front of the people in their village, telling of their decision. Twenty more adults joined them, as well as many children.

“Please pray that the new believers will grow in faith, especially the land chief’s son, and that the rest of his family would come to Christ,” urges the worker. “Wouldn’t that be a great ‘full-circle’ ending to this property saga?”
