A Season of Open Doors

By Harry and Jane Landaw, serving in Japan

In our first update this year, we want to thank you for your faithful prayers, support, and greetings. It has been a season of open doors. Nearly all of our ministries are to Japanese speakers, but God also has blessed us recently with ministries to Filipino groups. For the first time in our 32 years in Japan, Harry preached in English on Christmas Sunday at the Tokyo International Christian (Alliance) Fellowship.

In Japan, Christmas is a season of harvest. A woman with cancer came to church for the first time in her life. She is facing death. Weeping, she said, “Will you pray for me?” Unsaved husbands of Filipino wives attended. Please pray for Pastor Juanitez, an Alliance international worker from the Philippines, as he reaches neighborhood Filipino, Ghanaian, Nigerian, and English-speaking Japanese seekers.

God’s Miraculous Provision

Rev. Yamada, a retired Japanese pastor living in the area, heard of this international Alliance church and their need for a meeting place. He also knew of “The Family of God” Japanese Church, consisting of 30 people in the area, which had taken a step of faith to reach out to this area that has the highest crime rate in all of Tokyo. Church members had been focusing on the community and believed God to supply as they built a 200-seat sanctuary, a gym, and a cafeteria. The Family of God Church had vacated their previous meeting place. Rev. Yamada met with the leaders of this church, and it was decided that the Alliance church could use their old meeting place rent-free for two years. This was a miracle! God continues to bless the Alliance church as well as The Family of God Church.

We praise God for openness in the hearts of two unsaved husbands as well as in the heart of an English student, who is asking about where she will go when she dies. In addition, Mrs. Ogami, from an English Bible class, wants to be baptized this year. We also thank the Lord that Mr. Yoshida was led to Christ by one of the men from Kawaguchi Church and was baptized.

Working in many areas of Tokyo, a city of the 127 million+ people, we thank God for His miracles and believe Him for more in this New Year.

What You Can Do

Pray for Alliance international workers and the people with whom they make contact. Pray for hearts to receive the truth.

Give to Alliance Great Commission Ministries. In doing so, you partner with overseas workers, like the Landaws, to introduce spiritual hungry people to Jesus.
