40-Hour Intensive Basic Immigration Law Training

The Christian and Missionary Alliance is pleased to announce that the registration process is now open for those people interested in participating in an event for immigration law training.

The first training class will be held on April 16-20, 2012, at the First Alliance Church of Orlando, Florida. The training will be conducted by World Relief, using the curriculum of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). The weeklong training is designed for those interested in securing accreditation with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). BIA accreditation allows non-lawyers working at churches and nonprofit organizations to provide lawful immigration services in their communities as well as representation be-fore the BIA. The five-day training will be taught by experienced immigration attorneys and BIA-accredited individuals. A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted.

Costs for this training include: registration fee, $500; administrative fee, $75; books, $170; and five-day lunch meal plan, $50 (optional). In addition, participants are respon-sible for securing and paying for their transportation to and from Florida, transportation to and from the church training site, lodging, and meals.

Books for the training should be purchased during the registration process and will be delivered to participants at the training site in Orlando. (If participants already have a copy of the books and wish to bring them, or wish to share with another participant, they may do so. Participants will be using the two-volume set of A Guide for Immigration Ad-vocates, 17th ed. [ILRC].) After completion of the course, participants will have approxi-mately one month to complete a take-home test. If they pass the test, they will receive a certificate of completion from the ILRC.

Participants are encouraged to bring laptop computers.
