Eastern PA District Raises Thousands for Sandy Relief Efforts

“Praise the Lord,” says Andy Beare, pastor of Greenview Alliance Church in Montoursville, Pennsylvania. “So far, our district churches have committed resources in excess of $42,000 for tangible relief and recovery in New Jersey and New York.”

Spearheaded by Beare, Eastern Pennsylvania District churches came together last week to support relief efforts of Alliance churches in the Metropolitan District (New York)—the area hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.

Beare, who is working in conjunction with the Metropolitan District’s Disaster Relief Team, used a substantial portion of the funds to purchase desperately needed generators, power cords, freezers, and portable heaters, as well as gas and grocery gift cards. Most of the items are designated for King of Kings Community Church in Manahawkin, New Jersey, which is being used to provide shelter and meals for homeless neighbors. The church also is assisting with clean-up efforts.

Since the Red Cross has moved on to other areas, Manahawkin and neighboring communities along the New Jersey Coast are turning to churches for relief and assistance.

″The Alliance family is taking the opportunity to be what the Church is called to be,” says Beare. “The contributions allow for the purchase of more expensive equipment, which will significantly increase the church’s ability to reach out and minister during this time.”

Andy and a team from the church are driving to Manahawkin to deliver the generators and other items to King of Kings Community Church.
