Building His Church Together

By Bruce and Becky Dyke, serving in the Dominican Republic

In 2004, the teenage daughter of Pastor Wilson Cordero felt a burden to reach the 400-plus children in this area of San Luis through kids’ clubs. Once this ministry was under way, Pastor Cordero and his wife, Adela, met with the parents of the children who attended. Several received Christ, and the Corderos thought that would be the end of it.

But it wasn’t long before the new converts called Pastor Cordero and said, “You have to come back and keep teaching us.” As a result, the Casa de Vida Alliance Church was born.

At first, the believers met for services on the patio of a neighbor’s house. The sanctuary was completed later that year.

God Provides

Time and the elements caused the building’s walls to separate, posing potential harm to the growing congregation that now numbers more than 130. A long-time relationship between Pastor Cordero and Alliance international workers prompted a response, and a short-term team from Butler (Pa.) Community Alliance Church came to help rebuild.

As they prepared for the team’s arrival, the congregation learned that the property behind the church was for sale and presented this need to the Lord. By faith, church members gave more than one-third of the cost to purchase the property.

The church family worked together to demolish the old structure, and the Butler team built on the work the congregation began. The sanctuary has doubled in size, and there will be no problem filling it every week. The Casa de Vida church members continue to help with manpower and to provide finances.

Several young adults in the congregation serve in 10 different kids’ clubs in the area. Also, many church members attend theological education classes each week.

Not for a moment has God left us alone here in the Dominican Republic these last 25 years! He’s provided a fruitful partnership with Butler Alliance. We praise and glorify Him for His goodness and provision in building His Church in the Dominican Republic.
