Pray for Egypt

Editor’s Note: The following report was received from medical workers in Egypt on Saturday, August 17. Please pray for them, for the Christian Church, and for those being persecuted as a result of the recent unrest.

We do not know why God has placed us in the middle of Cairo during the violent upheavals that are occurring in Egypt, and we are definitely not trying to be heroes; but we know that God led us here, we know that He wants us to be His light in this very dark place, and we know He has work for us to do that will honor Him. Thank you for your prayers and your many messages of support and concern!

Yesterday’s “peaceful” demonstrations across the country (called the “March of Rage”) resulted in the deaths of at least 173 civilians and policemen, which saddens us deeply. During the past week of clashes, 57 policemen and soldiers died, almost all from hostile gunfire.

Pray that God will protect the Christians in Egypt and their churches, schools, and property. Pray that God will help them to love those who persecute and threaten them. Pray that God will give them an extraordinary grace to forgive.
