The following is an excerpt from a letter written by an Alliance worker serving in West Africa.
Recently, I attended the dedication ceremony for two new medical clinics in the African bush.
Alliance Connection
The nongovernmental organization CPAM (Protestant Center for Medical Assistance) is opening these clinics in an isolated region between the Bani and the Niger rivers.
CPAM supervises eight additional rural clinics as well as the Hospital for Women and Children, which The Alliance opened in southeastern Mali in 2006 to meet the “absolutely staggering” medical needs of this population.
Salt and Light
CPAM’s goal for the two new clinics is to staff them with Christian nurses who will demonstrate the love of Christ through caring for patients and helping to establish churches in this area.
Many of the nurses selected to serve in these centers have trained at the Hospital for Women and Children and taken missions courses at a Bible school that The Alliance administers.
During the celebration I was struck that we were “in the middle of nowhere.” (Many of the children had never seen a Caucasian before.) I was convicted to pray for and support these nurses to be salt and light in the unreached villages these clinics serve.
Please join me in praying that God would empower the nurses with great wisdom as they care for the sick and with boldness as they share about His love.
