Recent reports from the Philippines confirm that the death toll has risen significantly. In the central city of Tacloban alone, authorities fear as many as 10,000 have perished.
Alliance NEGPAS District Ministry Supervisor, Rev. Hassim Nasser, reports devastating damage to the Capiz Alliance Fellowship in Roxas City (both church and school) and to the C&MA Bulanon Church and parsonage in Sagay City. CEBOLESA District Ministry supervisor, Rev. Rouel Tabasa, reports that the Alliance Church and parsonage in Camotes Island (northern Cebu) are completely destroyed, along with the homes of 25 families who are members of the church. Travel in and out of the area is completely blocked, leaving many people isolated, without access to food, water or electricity.
It is also believed that the Palawan District and parts of the Southern Tagalog District in the Luzon region have suffered extensive damage. Although not yet confirmed, leaders fear that Alliance people are among the many who perished in these affected areas.
Dr. Jose Dalino, president of the C&MA Church of the Philippines (CAMACOP), asks that the worldwide Alliance family continue to pray for those impacted by this catastrophic storm. “We are trusting the Lord to undertake for our Alliance people in these affected areas.”
