Phil Skellie reports on Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts

The following was adapted from a recent communication by Phil Skellie, former president of CAMA, who is on special assignment to assess the destruction from Typhoon Haiyan and assist in formulating a relief plan.

I arrived in the Philippines on November 25 and will return on December16. We will meet with CAMACOP President Bishop Dalino; representatives of Philrads, a Philippine evangelical relief and development organization representing several denominations; and Inakay, a relief and development organization started by an Alliance worker couple.

Please pray for wisdom and discernment as we meet with Philippine leaders. Our hope is to develop protocols for future disasters (the Philippines is the fourth most disaster-prone country in the world), as well as meeting current needs.

We will visit the areas impacted by the typhoon and anticipate being involved in home and church reconstruction, microenterprise loans, distribution of water filters and food assistance, and other work as the situation dictates.

On our own, we face a hopeless task. Aided by your prayers and the Holy Spirit, we can find ways to help people rebuild their lives.
