Searching for Truth

By Sue Danneker, serving in Thailand

“I was searching for the truth about my life for a long time,” said Ann. “Why was I born? For what purpose am I here on earth?” She also longed for peace. “I looked everywhere but did not find it.”

Ann had known about God’s Word for quite some time, but personal conflict and other obstacles made her hesitant to receive the Lord. “Then one day, He sent someone to tell me about His way,” she said.

We met Ann in July 2013 when a short-term team from Fairlawn Community Church in Pennsylvania helped our congregation to distribute gospel literature during a prayer walk. The members of the group that passed Ann’s noodle shop sensed God’s Spirit prompting them to talk with her. They discovered she had an interest in the Lord.

I visited Ann frequently, often bringing my husband, Ed, and Pastor Sukprasan from the local Alliance church. Ann had many questions, but she accepted a Bible and other Christian literature. God used His Word, especially Matthew 9:9–13, to break down the walls around her heart. On the first Sunday she came to church in early November, Ann told me in tears, “Jesus could come even to me, such a sinner? He eats with sinners! He came not for the healthy but for sinners like me!”

Shortly after that, we took another short-term team to visit Ann, and she confirmed that she had come to saving faith in Jesus. I then began to visit her regularly to disciple her.

Ann told her family, friends, and customers that she was a Christian. When she learned that the church was planning a baptismal service in February 2014, she was eager to be baptized.

“After hearing about God’s way,” she testified at her baptism, “I knew this was the way for true peace in my life. I never wanted things, like riches—only true peace and the opportunity to tell others.

“Thank you, Lord, for searching for me and opening the door. You gave me this opportunity and led me in all things. You accepted me and have given me every breath that I breathe.”

Pray that Ann will continue to grow in her faith and that God will use her to bring others into the Kingdom.
