Despite the violence and chaos in the streets of Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and other parts of Burkina Faso, Jesus has kept Alliance workers, churches, and schools—as well as the vast majority of Burkinabe citizens—safe and sound. These cities, although bearing the scars of the uprising, are being restored to calm as cleanup efforts begin and plans to restore democracy are starting to take shape. As one U.S. Alliance international worker in Ouga reports,
Torched and looted, just a block from us, and across the wall from our French Bible School Maranatha, the home of a former prime minister of Burkina went up in flames the night of Oct 31. No, not a Halloween prank! This was part of a popular uprising by the people of Burkina Faso who wanted change. We are so grateful that the anger was focused on government only, and although many ministers of the government lost their homes and some demonstrators lost their lives, it did not last long. Today there is peace, a call to clean up the streets and prepare for democratic elections in three months. Thank you so much for your prayers. Pray now for wisdom as a new leader is chosen.
