Celebration Marks Dakar Academy Outreach

“Celebration” is our theme this year at Dakar Academy. Our Thanksgiving outreach to Foundiougne last weekend was a cause for joy.

Celebrating the successful installment of a well during the school's Thanksgiving 2014 outreach

Although we experienced a number of crises—our rented buses didn’t arrive Friday morning, we left some sound equipment as well as an essential mechanical part for our well-digging pump at the school, and a generator broke down—God miraculously provided a solution for each situation.

For example, a local hardware store owner delivered the missing part we needed to drill the well. “A white man gave me that piece years ago, and I didn’t know what it was for!” he told us.

Discouragement, Victory

Foundiougne is a new ministry area with just a handful of believers, and spiritual oppression during the outreach caused a number of our students to suffer bouts of discouragement. Yet when we gathered to share our stories after returning to campus, the service lasted more than two hours. It evolved into a time of celebration as student after student testified to how God “showed up” that weekend.

Here are some highlights from the outreach in Foundiougne, during which we ministered to more than 2,500 people:

  • A church foundation was dug and cement poured.
  • We made 510 bricks and built 20 benches for a church.
  • Six evening evangelism campaigns were held in six villages.
  • Our child evangelism and drama teams ministered in seven villages and saw decisions made for Christ.
  • Our prayer team interceded for a number of people and witnessed many answers to prayer.
  • More than 150 people expressed a desire to follow Jesus; national pastors are providing follow-up and discipleship.

Several national pastors also expressed their appreciation for how Dakar Academy students encouraged them in the new work the Lord is doing in this region. Indeed, we have much to celebrate!

Pray

  • Praise God for the successful outreach. Pray for the new believers to grow strong in their faith and for area pastors to disciple them well.
  • Use the weekly Alliance Prayer Requests to join the Alliance family in praying for our teams in Africa and worldwide, who serve in often challenging circumstances that require Holy Spirit–inspired perseverance, wisdom, and creativity in demonstrating God’s love to those who don’t know Him.
