Great Commission Day

Courageous workers have risen to Jesus’ invitation to sow seeds of hope in some of the world’s most spiritually barren landscapes. He has called us to support and equip these “sent ones.” Your gift to the Great Commission Day Offering shouts, “We will!”

George Breaden in Arabia, circa 1945

In 1890, The Alliance sent two pioneering women to the Middle East with the message of hope in Jesus Christ. It was a tough assignment, but they stuck with it. Over the next several years, others joined them, including George Breaden and his young family. George often traveled by camel hundreds of miles through open desert to preach the good news to the local people. Eventually, they received him and listened attentively to his message. During the next few decades, George, his wife, Lola, and a handful of new disciples braved the harsh dunes to establish churches in key locations throughout the Arab Lands.

The long-awaited harvest in the desert is upon us.

Plowing and planting, careful cultivation, and watering over time is what produces healthy fruit. Our Alliance work in the Middle East over the years demonstrates this principle. Today, our Alliance “sent ones” live and labor among more than 70 peoples of the world, patiently but passionately committed to fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

While in some places we are reaping the harvest, much Alliance ministry today is focused on new plowing and sowing among peoples who’ve long lacked access to the good news. Our history tells us that this investment is worth it.

Great Commission Day 2015 is a significant opportunity for the U.S. Alliance family to extend the reach of the gospel into some of the most spiritually desolate regions of our world. Together, we are introducing lost and hurting people to the only One who provides lasting hope and an eternal future.

Your Great Commission Day Offering is administered through the Great Commission Fund (GCF), which supports and equips a team of 700 international workers who care for the physical and spiritual needs of lost, hurting, and disenfranchised people in 70 countries. The GCF also helps fund U.S. church planting, Alliance higher education, and a variety of U.S. based support ministries.
