More than 30 Alliance Men Killed in Bus Crash (correction)

(Correction 3/26/15): On Wednesday, March 25, we reported that a bus crash in Peru had taken the lives of 30 men who were members of the Peruvian Christian and Missionary Alliance church. This report was consistent with what was being broadcast through multiple media outlets. Since then we have learned that the men were NOT part of The Alliance but rather another missions organization known as the Worldwide Missionary Movement. Regardless, this is a tragic accident and the families of those who perished remain in need of our prayers.

We apologize for the confusion.

(3/25/15): A bus crash in Peru on March 23 killed at least 37 people, the country’s Ministry of Health said. The bus, which was carrying a delegation of Christian and Missionary Alliance men, was hit by three vehicles coming from the opposite direction—two buses and a truck. More than 30 of the Alliance church members perished. They were returning from a retreat in Lima, the capital.

This was “one of the worst traffic accidents in the country in many years,” Tomo News reported on youtube.

The accident took place before dawn on the Pan American Highway near Huarmey, about 200 miles north of Lima.

Please pray for God’s comfort and peace for the family members and churches affected by this tragedy.

—Based on reports from John Sappia, an Alliance international worker to Paraguay, and Tim Wendel, regional director for Latin America
