Alliance People Safe amid Japan Flooding

Alliance people and churches are safe after unprecedented rain in Japan caused heavy floods that tore houses from their foundations, uprooted trees, and forced more than 100,000 people from their homes.

“Transportation, utilities, and the Internet were affected in the Tokyo area,” said Ken Young, who with his wife, Kathy, serves as field leader in Japan. The Ishinomaki New Life Center, an outreach to people affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, is in one of the affected areas.

Alan Kropp, team leader for the New Life Center, said that warning sirens have been ringing in the area but that the river banks seem to be holding back the rushing waters at this time.

According to news reports, flooding conditions will continue for several days. The government does not yet want volunteers to go into the affected areas.

Pray

Praise God for protecting Alliance people and churches from these floods. Pray for those who have been affected—that God will meet their needs quickly, that the waters will recede soon, and that many will come to know Jesus.
