Relief efforts in and around the Houston area are critical. Over the next two weeks, 15–20 volunteers are needed to provide hands-on assistance to those both within the Alliance family and those within the reach of our Houston-area churches who have been displaced and are in desperate need of help right now.
If you, a group of friends, or a team from your church can arrange your schedules to help meet this desperate need, please sign up to volunteer by contacting the Southwestern District at [email protected].
What you need to know:
- Length of stay should be 3–5 days. Longer is great, but it will require the district more time to coordinate where you will be working.
- Volunteers must be able to work in 90-degree heat with 70-percent humidity.
- Two churches in the Houston Metro area will be the staging area for volunteers. Your location will be assigned by a volunteer coordinator.
- Accommodations are provided at your assigned church. Cots and showers are available, but there are no available laundry facilities.
What you need to bring:
- Your own food (You can buy groceries once you arrive.)
- Your own bedding
- Sturdy shoes, suitable for mud and water (no flip-flops, open-toed shoes, or shorts)
- Strong work gloves
- Respirators (paper masks)
- Sunglasses, hats, insect repellent, and sunscreen
- Your own tools: hammer, pry bar, rakes, shovels, heavy/duty contractor garbage bags, sturdy brooms, pump sprayers, power tools, and a small generator (if available)
We appreciate your willingness to volunteer. And please continue to pray for Texas.
