In late January, our Dakar Academy (DA) team traveled to share Christ’s compassion in a distant village. We went to serve a pastor who is a missionary from another African country—he’s supported by several churches there and a U.S. congregation.
Along with a group of students, we painted classrooms at a public school and laid the foundation for a discipleship center. The outreach also featured a medical clinic; drama, prayer, and child evangelism teams that ministered to surrounding villages; and nightly evangelistic campaigns.
Here are some highlights.
- One student was thrilled to lead an older woman and a younger girl to Jesus. “I never realized God could use me this way!” the student exclaimed. “There’s no greater joy than leading someone to Christ!”
- The medical team saw a woman come to Christ on the first day. They later treated a wound on a man’s leg, who decided to follow Jesus. He was so excited that he called his sister in France to tell her—and then asked to be baptized that day!
- It was powerful to see our drama team students pray over a weeping man in bondage to alcohol!
- In one village, a teacher closed an Arabic school so the students could watch the drama team’s gospel presentation.
- Outside the medical clinic, several translators and DA staff interceded over a little girl who was quite combative and appeared to be spiritually oppressed. After she was prayed for, a peace settled over her—and her mother asked to receive Christ!
- Despite significant spiritual oppression during the second night of the evangelistic campaign, we witnessed God’s power—one woman joyfully approached a group of students, exclaiming, “My daughter is FREE! My daughter is FREE!”
- A man who had accepted Christ one day joined us on stage during the evening service, singing and dancing to the Lord in celebration of his newfound faith!
- Around 40 people came forward at the end of one service to indicate their desire to follow Jesus.
We are grateful to all who prayed for this outreach. Please pray for follow-up with those who received Christ.
