President Donald Trump announced Friday, May 22, 2020, that his administration is issuing guidance deeming places of worship “essential” operations during the coronavirus pandemic and encouraging their immediate reopening.
Although this may be received as welcome news to the greater Christian community, it will be important that each church prayerfully and carefully consider the timing, dynamics, and implications associated with reopening publicly.
Also on Friday, the National Association of Evangelicals released a Guide to Reopening Church Services to assist churches in making the transition back to public worship.
Several weeks ago, the Alliance Office of Church Ministries released the document, Planning to Relaunch Public Services, with questions for churches to consider in making the decision to reopen.
The Body of Christ is called to be both a faithful presence and prophetic witness to our neighborhoods and the nations. Historically, Christ-followers have worshipped under all circumstances, including threats, war, and persecution.
As the Alliance family, we share deep gratitude for how God has worked in and through us during this pandemic. We continue to celebrate how the good news of Jesus has been shared with countless souls during this time of uncertainty and isolation, as we eagerly anticipate His Spirit’s ongoing presence and guidance as we begin to regather.
