Overview: The Assistant Pastor - Youth Emphasis at Watsontown Alliance Church (WAC) is called to pastoral ministry specifically related to youth ministry but will include ministry to the church body as a whole. The age range of the youth ministry at WAC targets 7th-12th grade students. While primary responsibilities will be related to youth ministry, The Assistant Pastor-YM will work closely with the Lead Pastor (LP) to help develop a cohesive discipleship strategy for people of all ages at WAC. One significant role of the position is to create a healthy model for volunteer leadership development and multiplication within the Youth Ministry context. Requirements: Ideally, the Assistant Pastor - Youth Emphasis will be licensed with the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA) or pursuing licensing with the denomination. WAC would also prefer that the candidate be ordained within the C&MA or actively pursuing the ordination process. He must have theological training either via undergraduate or graduate studies and hold to evangelical positions. The candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge of current youth ministry and cultural trends, a firm biblical understanding, and healthy social awareness. A track record of solid leadership development and the ability to create and empower teams are a must. Additionally, both counseling and administration gifts are necessary as the ministry is largely volunteer-driven. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a local church or para-church youth ministry context. Qualifications: In addition to excellent communication and organizational skills, the Assistant Pastor possesses a/an: • Vibrant and visible personal relationship with Jesus Christ • Clear gifting and ability to develop leaders • Commitment to develop faithful disciples of Christ who go on to develop new disciples • Passion to reach individuals who are un-churched or have turned away from faith in Jesus • A clear gifting for developing healthy and relevant youth ministries • A heart for ministering to the surrounding community • Ability to accept direction and feedback including constructive criticism • Proven track record for punctuality and reliability • Ability to “self-start” (i.e. recognize a need and initiate an appropriate response) • Ability for resourceful problem solving and conflict resolution Job Description: The Assistant Pastor - Youth Emphasis is responsible for the following: 1. Youth Ministry a. Create a vibrant and growing youth ministry for both middle school and high school students that supports the overall mission, vision and values of Watsontown Alliance Church. b. Develop an effective system for identifying, training, and empowering volunteer youth leaders with the goal of maintaining healthy volunteer-to-student ratios c. Maintain a safe environment for students through the use of annual volunteer background checks and child safety training classes for both new and existing youth volunteers d. Create and/or identify relevant and Biblically sound curriculum for youth throughout the year e. Develop volunteer leaders who can successfully execute all of the main leadership components of the youth ministry: worship, teaching, small group facilitation, service projects, events coordination f. Identify, plan and execute annual mission trips / conferences for both middle school and high school g. Create regular opportunities for students to serve the felt needs of our community h. Equip both volunteer leaders and students to effectively share the Gospel of Jesus with others i. Develop and maintain an annual calendar of events, activities and youth ministry programs j. Lead or attend an annual weekend retreat for both middle school and high school students k. Develop effective fundraising initiatives as needed to cover the cost for larger trips / events l. Foster the creation of regular outreach opportunities m. Facilitate effective and regular communication methods with volunteers, youth and parents n. Create and foster a healthy sense of community, belonging and family within the youth ministry o. Coordinate with the Lead Pastor in developing healthy discipleship tools and resources for parents p. When possible, pour into selected youth by mentoring/discipling them in an intentional way q. Participate in weekly Sunday morning services 2. Pastoral Responsibilities a. Provide pastoral care to youth, volunteers and parents on a limited basis, knowing when to refer to a professional counselor including pastoral care training opportunities for youth volunteers b. Work with Senior Pastor in a mentoring relationship c. Coordinate with Lead Pastor in providing discipleship opportunities for the greater church d. Visit WAC family members in need of prayer/counseling (i.e. hospital or home visits) e. Assist with church-wide outreach and fellowship events as needed f. Provide assistance with weekly Sunday services including preaching as needed 3. Administration a. Facilitate annual communication process for all youth ministry related activities b. Manage youth ministry database for the purpose of maintaining attendance, follow-up and event registration processes c. Manage all financial aspects related to youth ministry initiatives (budgeting, accounting, event registration, reimbursements etc.) d. Create content and promote Youth Ministry and greater WAC initiatives on social media e. Maintain and ensure the accuracy of all WAC website content f. Give monthly ministry updates to leadership and write the annual Youth Ministry report g. Participate in the annual staff review process
