Youth Pastor / Director of Student Ministries Heartland Church - Lexington, OH www.heartlandlex.com Goal: The goal of Student Ministry at Heartland (Middle and High School) is to work in conjunction with parents to build followers of Jesus, equipping them to make disciples of others while living missionally. Supervision: The Youth Pastor reports to the Lead Pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance and is ultimately accountable to the Elder Board. The Lead Pastor will provide an annual evaluation of the Youth Pastor’s performance, based on an agreed Ministry Action Plan. The Primary Task: In conjunction with the other ministries of Heartland, oversee a comprehensive ministry to our students anchored in engaging worship, small group relationships, leader development, and partnership with parents. Key actions steps toward success will include: - Discipling students and young adults into a personal relationship with God in both large group and smaller relational environments. - Growing the student ministry by creating attractive and compelling environments to which our youth can invite their non-Christian friends. - Building a team of passionate adult youth leaders to help mentor and disciple the youth. - Challenging the students and young adults to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world. - Supporting and assisting parents in the process of discipling their youth . - Equipping the current students to share the Gospel with their friends. - Working with the worship pastor to develop student musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders. - Working with the Missions Team to provide opportunities to put faith into action. Responsibilities: - Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced student ministry. - Mentor leaders, students and young adults in developing their leadership skills. - Stay abreast of new resources and changes in youth ministry and youth culture and adjust our programming as needed to maintain a current and effective program. - Participate in continuing education events and training opportunities. - Promote and participate in district and national youth events and opportunities. - Provide parents with continuing education and training in the area of raising their youth. - Recruit and train volunteers to serve in various aspects of student ministry and ensure adequate adult to youth ratios. - Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to student ministries. - Select the curriculum, teach or coordinate others teaching, for all youth gatherings. - Work in partnership with schools in the area to effectively reach youth in the community. - Keep records of youth participation and manage the student ministry budget. - Communicate with the students and parents in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, email-newsletter, texting, etc.). This includes a quarterly parent’s newsletter, regular parent emails regarding upcoming events, weekly youth check in texts. - Along with volunteer youth leaders, be available to encourage, challenge, and counsel the youth, young adults and parents towards effective lives as followers of Jesus (i.e. lunch at school, after school visits, attendance at extracurricular activities, home visitations, and support during times of crisis, etc.) - Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a strong teamwork mentality. - Attend all weekly Staff Meetings as well as any other regular scheduled meetings. - Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all student ministry settings. - Other duties as requested and assigned by the Lead Pastor. Qualifications and Aptitudes: - Adhere to theology and values of Heartland and The Christian and Missionary Alliance - Ministry credentials with the C&MA or a commitment to pursuing credentialing. - Clear, observable commitment to Jesus Christ. - A relational and pastoral heart. - If married, clear support from their spouse. - A proven track record of success in student ministry. - A willingness to work with children’s ministry leaders to ensure a comprehensive ministry to children and students of all ages. - Have a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a student and family ministry within the parameters of the church. - Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills. - Must have a proven ability to work effectively with youth, young adults, parents, diverse individuals, multiple staff, and teams of volunteers.
