Central Pacific District C&MA

Assistant Pastor of Youth Ministry Ministry Summary The Assistant Pastor of Youth Ministry helps Risen King pursue transformation through relationships by leading ministry to junior high and high school students and their families. Because of his/her ministry in this role, youth are being transformed to look more like Jesus through their relationships with God, one another, and people and the world around them. Additionally, he/she works closely with the rest of the U20 team to provide smooth transitions from elementary to junior high; junior high to high school; and out of high school into young adult and mainstream adult ministries. Ministry Outcomes The Assistant Pastor of Youth Ministry is responsible to see that these outcomes are achieved: 1. Engaging and purposeful programs are offered for junior high and high school students weekly. This will include developing volunteers and youth leaders to work together to plan the events; promoting and communicating; budgeting; coordinating necessary facilities; and inviting and connecting with students. 2. Engaging, purposeful and age-appropriate programming is offered for junior high students during Sunday morning services. This includes staffing the classes; choosing or developing appropriate curriculum; and ensuring that classrooms are appropriately arranged and supplied. 3. Special events for both junior high and high school students are coordinated, promoted, and executed. These could include summer camps, concerts, retreats parties, etc. 4. Junior high and high school students feel connected to one another, their ministry leaders, and the wider Risen King church family. This will involve regular, personal communication from the Assistant Pastor and other leaders and volunteers (via text, phone, email, website, social media, etc.). It will also necessitate equipping, encouraging and empowering volunteer leaders to execute ministries and to maintain connection with students. 5. Communicate well and regularly with parents and families of junior high and high school students regarding upcoming activities, costs, curriculum, and other program details. 6. Staff meetings and other duties as assigned. Accountability The Assistant Pastor of Youth Ministry is directly accountable to the Senior Pastor (Tim Kayser). Periodic performance reviews will be conducted to assess the extent to which ministry outcomes are being achieved. No staff positions are accountable to this position, although as noted above, it is expected that he/she will develop and oversee a team of volunteers and leaders. Thanks for your interest in the Assistant Pastor of Youth Ministry position at Risen King Community Church. This is a full-time role starting at $42,000/year plus benefits. Starting date will vary according to availability, but we would like to have someone in place by late summer. Risen King Community Church is located in Redding, California, a community of about 90,000 people halfway between Sacramento and the Oregon border. With Mt. Shasta and Shasta Lake to the north, Lassen Volcanic National Park to the east, Whiskeytown Lake to the west, and mountains on three side, it’s a beautiful place to live. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound, and the lower cost of living, smaller town feel, and relaxed pace of life make it a great place to live and raise a family. Risen King is a Christian and Missionary Alliance church that started in 1990. We were heavily influenced by the renewal movements of the late 80’s and 90’s, and to this day maintain a high value for the presence and work of the Holy Spirit. We likewise have a high value for God’s Word. We believe in and prioritize the healing work of Jesus for our whole lives: body, mind, soul and spirit. Our church facilities are located on 50 acres of land on the north side of Redding, 10 of which have been developed so far. Pre-COVID, average weekly attendance was between 350 and 400. Post-COVID attendance remains to be seen! (We have been meeting in person since mid-January and are still seeing people each week who are back for the first time since before the pandemic.) At Risen King, we are about transformation through relationships. The goal of this transformation is to look like Jesus. We want to see his character formed in us. As a part of this transformation process, we are excited to see people saved, healed, set free, restored and reconciled. We believe that transformation happens in and through relationships: with God, with one another, and with people and the world around us. As we are coming out of the coronavirus season, we are excited to be relaunching our church and its ministries. This includes our ministries to junior high and high school students. We look forward to a future in which we are increasingly more effective at reaching our students, their friends, and the youth of our community with the transforming message and power of the gospel. We see a thriving youth ministry as a necessary component of a healthy and growing church, and believe that finding the right person to serve as our youth pastor will help position us well for a bright future! The right person for this role is someone who: • Has a vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus • Experiences the power and presence of God in their life and ministry • Is excited about Risen King and where God is taking us as a church family • Aligns with Risen King’s purpose, priorities, and theology • Shares the values of our church, including a commitment to the Bible as our highest authority and a passion to see God’s Kingdom come in power • Has a calling for, training in, and experience in youth ministry • Has vision to develop thriving junior high and high school ministries • Loves junior high and high school students and their families • Will count it a privilege to influence junior high and high school students to follow Jesus faithfully and boldly • Is able to recruit and lead a team of volunteers • Is a self-starter who takes initiative to set goals and execute action plans to accomplish those goals • Is able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Review the ministry description on the following pages and, if interested, please contact Janet Spriggs at to complete an application. Applications will be accepted through June 14, 2021.
