Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Dear Friends & Co-Laborers for Jesus,

We want to bring you up-to-date on what’s happening in our lives. But first, a little of the backstory. You might remember that back in 1981 Alicia and I were living in NY. At that time were at the point of divorce, but with the urging of friends, we went to a Marriage Encounter Weekend in St. Louis. There God intervened in our lives, saved our marriage, and we committed to following God’s Plan instead of the World’s Plan. That decision led us to leave the rat race of New York and move to Ohio, where we went to a Christ in the Passover presentation by the Jews for Jesus. Through their ministry we received Jesus as our Messiah, and they introduced us to the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Within three weeks of becoming followers of Jesus, the Lord impressed upon our hearts that His Plan for us was to serve overseas as C&MA missionaries. That meant another move, so we left Ohio for Alliance Theological Seminary in NY for 3 years, then on to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1990 to plant a church. After pastoring 11 years there, the way was opened for us to go to Uruguay, South America to be involved in a church planting ministry in Montevideo. Four years later we were back in Colorado on home assignment while Alicia completed her master’s degree in counseling at Denver Seminary. It was during that time we learned we would not be able to return to Uruguay, but that God’s Plan was to serve at Oasis Church in Loxahatchee, Florida.

This past June, 2019 at our national conference in Orlando, at the Sunday Missions Rally, we sensed a deep heart-felt call that God’s Plan for us is to go back to Uruguay. Randy was brought to tears as he realized that God wanted to complete the work that He had begun in us. As we prayed and pursued God’s Plan we were given a positive YES from the church planting team in Montevideo that was looking for another couple to join them in the exact same work that we had previously started there. God continued to confirm His Plan for us by opening every door, guiding our every step as we completed all required documents and interviews in the approval process.

So here we are, approved as International Workers to serve once again with the Alliance in Montevideo, Uruguay. We are truly blessed that the Alliance entrusts an older couple like us to return to the same mission field after such a long absence. This is both an exciting, yet, sad time for us. We feel the sadness of leaving our own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom we love so dearly. Yet we are excited for this next adventure that God is calling us to.

Our Oasis Church family is going to be our home Church and sending Church. We will stay in close contact with them as they are partnering with us in this mission. From time to time we will also be able to return on vacation. We will be renting our home for 4 years (a 2-year lease has already been signed by renters), and then return in 2024 to retire and live in it. Alicia’s last day at her job was Wednesday, Feb 26th, and my last Sunday serving as pastor at Oasis Church was March 1st. We have already started going through our stuff, packing and transitioning out of our many responsibilities. By the end of March, we will start a 3-month road trip to see Alicia’s family in Atlanta, followed by several weeks with our son, Ryan, and his family in Mechanicsburg, PA. Then in late April or early May we will continue on to visit Randy’s family in Kansas City for a few days on our way to seeing more family in Colorado and New Mexico. By June 1st we expect to arrive where our daughter, Kiki, is moving into a newly constructed house in Texas. We have to be in Colorado Springs for pre-field orientation in mid-July, and then fly back to Florida to gather our luggage before leaving the country in early August.

We know this sounds surprising (it was also pretty shocking for our congregation to learn), but we believe this is God’s Plan for us during these next four years. Please call or email if you'd like more information.

With our Love,
Randy & Alicia
